My 0.277 Life Crisis

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=97644

See this thread about half the way down for pictures, also my profile picture.

My course starts in less than a week (next thursday). I am excited to get my get my liscense and start riding. I have screwed around on the bike for the past two weekends getting the clutch engaged and shifting into second wooo! With my no expierence on motorcycles in the past I am taking it slow, The plan is if I am going to drop a bike when I am complete noob it might as well be a course bike not my currently clean 05'.

I am excited to make some pointless trips on the bike, something I often do in my car.

Seems like you guys have a good forum here, just wanted to say hi.

Don't judge me =). My girlfriend likes to regularly remind me that I am a nerd for some reason.

I spent too many hours in matlab durring college.

edit:

Maybe when I start riding all the time I will be cool.

hi jake, welcome. i think my son bought one of the other bikes you were looking at, the one with 15k miles. same year & color scheme.

from your other thread it sounds like you already have somebody to ride with, but if you guys ever want to head up bucks county way, it would be nice to meet you.

ride safe, enjoy the course, and enjoy that bike. i am a total newbie also and am really enjoying it. i wish i had started 35 years ago. (yeah, im old).

I am definitely down to meet up for a ride sometime. I will obviously need some time to get adjusted to riding before that. I am betting on it being mid april before that happens. Not that I can really predict something like that, I may go crazy right after the course and start riding everywhere I feel comfortable.

I drive all over the place and bucks is not too far from me. I keep pretty busy and my ultimate plan for the bike is lots of trips and riding to other hobbies, but I am sure in the coming months I will want to do lots of riding just for the hell of it.

Yo Jake..I'm going to pointlessly post here, even though I can just talk to you anytime.

One of our former riding friends lives in the Bucks area, I've actually done some riding around New Hope. Rt. 33 I think? I forget the name, was a lot of fun though.

And +1 for pointless trips.

well some saturday this summer, or a sunday afternoon, you guys could swing past here and get me, we could head up to bethlehem and get some of the lehigh valley people, then head over to the river and up 611, cross over at portland and come back down thru jersey to maybe stockton or new hope.

it would be farthest for you philly guys, and your butt might get a little sore, but it would be a nice day i think.

That's how you know you're doing it right. When I climb at the rock gym our saying goes "if you can snap your fingers you didn't climb hard enough." The plan is to carry that over to the bike. =)

Well I'm sure your behind hasn't felt anything like this before

@emoyer, sounds like a cool plan, totally down for a long ride. Will be chump change compared to the ride I am taking this week

However, Jake, I could tell you this anytime, but I'll just say it here. Fatiguing yourself will lead you to move your concentration elsewhere. Resting is always good. But you already know that

Do I sense a New Hope meet brewing????????

The bf and I are expecting to do some cruises down rt 31 from Easton to New Hope in the nice weather. It's a great drive, it should be fun to try on the bike. Who wants in?

i would enjoy that. give me a heads up when you are planning to go.

btw, i have been trying to find a good way thru the ABE area (going north/south). yesterday i tried the 412 bridge, looking for linden street, but i got lost. next i might try to next bridge down (freemansburg?). what would you suggest?

What are you looking for? Fun ride? Scenery? Less traffic?

I think theres a couple turns once you get off 412 until you find 191, that's right by the casino. (I haven't been here for too many years - grew up in Bucks).

Theres some fun roads off 309 around Saucon Valley. Found a really fun/scary road to get from 78 to 611.

Thanks. For now my 250 does touring duty. I have done 400 mile days without much other than a sore butt. It's going to take some serious willpower, but I think it is more than doable. The CBR has less range than the Ninja so I will be stopping quite a bit more. I guess a touring bike in the future isn't a bad idea, but I enjoy pushing 250s. Makes people go

im surely interested in any fun/scenic roads you have found (i know what you mean about saucon valley), but i also get that from the rest of the "loop" -- what im looking for is a fairly direct, not too stressful way to "connect the loop" by getting from above ABE, say the nazareth area, to below the lehigh river (or vice versa). i dont mind traffic if its necessary (sometimes i almost enjoy it, which cant be good) but id prefer not big roads.

and what was the fun/scary road you mentioned?

thanks.

Looking at a map, I'm not 100% sure, I'd have to go drive it again (should be going down next weekend so maybe I can confirm).
I'd have to guess Morgan Hill Rd. I was in my Miata, some tight turns and huge hills. At one point, it felt like the car was sideways - which is impressive for a car like that.

My preferred route from 378 north to bypass the junk is Mountain Drive W which takes you up over the mountain by the top part of Lehigh campus, then down Hayes St to 3rd st across the Minsi trail bridge only Stefko. But that route also works best to get to my part of town. You can get to 512 or 191 fairly easily from there but it's a few turns.
There was another road that connected to Mountain Drive that was pretty fun that took you a little further south too.

ive been looking at morgan hill road on the map for a while now and meaning to check it out, but havent yet. a couple weeks ago i took mountain drive over the hill on my way from the promenade to easton, i got on hayes street but then continued along the south side of the lehigh. for a little ways that road was only a single lane. thanks for the suggestions.
