06 GSXR600 rear shock conversion
I dismantled my 06 GSXR600 shock to remove the 9.6kg spring, and install the 03 GSXR600 spring from the other shock I picked up as per the info I have read on the shock conversion. A couple things I noticed that I was not comfortable with, was the difference in spring height, the 03 spring was 1/2" longer than the 06 spring, and the OD of the 03 spring was larger, also. Combining these two differences, I am not comfortable installing this spring onto the 06 GSXR600 shock. Does anyone have the OD of the different springs that would match the collars/adjustment rings on this shock? I would much prefer to get the proper fitment on the spring, than to adapt a larger OD spring, which may cause binding on the swingarm.
Has anyone who has done this conversion found a 8 - 8.6 kg spring that would be the proper length and OD for the 06 GSXR600 shock? I plan on making an extension to the lower clevis also, to gain ride height instead of using shorter dogbones. It would give me a shock height about an inch higher, which should give a better handling bike for the track. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on springs available, even if they are aftermarket ones! Charlie

The diameter of the OEM 06 GSXR600 spring is 85mm, and the coil diameter in 11.35mm, so the ID should be approximately 62.25mm or so...I see that the 03-04 GSXR1000 spring is 8.6kg and the 05-06 GSXR1000 is 8.1kg, so if anyone can verify the OD and spring length on the springs, that could be helpful. I have the spreadsheet "Ninja 250GSXR Shock Options" and it is helpful, but the shock I picked ended up being larger diameter than the 06 GSXR600 rear shock spring... and I do not want to introduce any more width for obvious clearance issues with the swingarm. UPDATE!
I found some info out about this shock, it is a 40mm Showa, and the GSXR1000 and pre-2006 shocks are 46mm. I do not want to introduce a larger spring diameter, so my next choice is to get an aftermarket spring of the correct spring rate, 8.8kg to 8.9kg. RaceTech has these available, and are on eBay for under $100 shipped. I think I will install the shock as-is, then look for the proper spring rate after trying out the 9.4kg spring rate stock. The RaceTech spring calculator, using 180 lb rider weight and 350 lb bike weight wants me to use a 9.9kg spring rate, but that seems like a lot for our little ninja's. So, this week will be one of stripping down the 86 Ninja and getting ready for the shock install!
