Someone school me, please. Kid wants one, and I am having a hard time figuring out the differences between the different bundles. Does it come with different specs (different amounts of hard drive space, memory, etc.), or is it really the same box no matter which bundle? He wants it for Minecraft, Starlander Trap Team, and maybe something else I'm forgetting. If anyone is a guru, would much appreciate some guidance...

PS3 did, so i would be surprised if PS4 doesnt. It was called the PS Eye i think. It was more accurate than the kinect, but im not sure about the new kinect so i havent played any games with it.

If you dont need the kinect you can save a good chunk of money, i know its not needed for minecraft but im not sure about the other games he wants. With black friday, and them including 2 free games with purchase Xbox is prob the better deal. Sony hasnt had a price drop yet to my knowledge.

I want a PS4 still, but their still isnt a good enough game list to justify it. And i mean PS4 exclusives. I like my Xbox One, but ive gotten pretty far behind and dont play games as much as i used to....

hardware wise, they are the same thing. the ps4 has a slightly faster memory bus to shared memory, and allows a higher output resolution. aside from that they are almost identical. the games cost the same. they both have the same feature sets. the difference is in the 1st party games. microsoft for some reason actually released minecraft to ps4, but you wont see many other first party exclusives going non-exclusive. and forget about any of the sony games going to microsoft. that's just sony's MO. as far as the gimicky control schemes, both consoles have the option to wave your hands and jump up and down, though for slightly different price setups.

software wise, sony has been ahead of microsoft since launch but they are losing their lead. these days they are almost equal.

I have xbox one + kinect and to be honest with you the kinect isn't very useful, it's more of a gimmick that gets old after 2-3 days. Go with the cheapest one available for the $350 holiday price. The higher bundles generally just come with kinect and maybe a game. If you need more storage then you can always pick up an external hard drive and hook it up.

Finally, a video game question... something I am a "guru" on!

the kid doesn't know what he wants. it's up to an intelligent parent to guide him to make the right choice.

all motion controls are gimicky. that's what they are for. it's a gimick because young children love gimicks.

the xbox is cheaper if you dont want the gimicky crap but the ps4 is cheaper if you do. and you have to buy the online access... ps4 is about half the price there. xbox is like $120 a year.

unless xbox has upped their prices xbox live costs me 60 a year. And i doubt Alex will get live(gold) for his kid (isnt he like 5 or 6?). You can still download games and what not if you dont buy the gold one, just not play other people. Playstation use to be free, but i dont have the 4 so i have no clue if they are charging people now to play online.

And Alex.s is right, his kid doesnt know what he wants (if its his young one). His child may know what GAME he wants, but it may be offered for both platforms. With me it was more of all my friends have XBone, so if i want to play online games with them i have to buy the xbox. - plus ..... titanfall

I didn't realize that Minecraft (and apparently Starlander) are available on both, so it does look like there are options. They do sound similar enough that either probably would work fine.

Don't be such a play station fan boy.... first off xbox live is not $120 a year... you were off... and not by a little... it's literally $60 the exact same price as the PS4.

@Alex, if your kid specifically stated they wanted an xbox, then that's what you should get. If they said they just wanted to play minecraft, then you can just go for which ever one you want... but keep in mind, Microsoft owns Minecraft and in the future we will begin to see updates and features being exclusive to xbox, I can pretty much guarantee it.

Microsoft has been pretty ballsy in making decisions like that before, but with the way the company stands now, I don't think so.

Then you should probably start shopping around. You can buy the One Year Membership cards for $60.

For me the console choice came down to friends. 90% of my friends own an Xbox, therefore there would be no one to play with if I bought a PS4.

I have played around with my friend's PS4, and there are some fun games on there.

@Alex Yes, there is a motion tracker camera as well. It's not anywhere close to the integration of the kinect, and I don't believe many games use it.

If you're buying an Xbone for your child, I would pick up the version with the kinect. There's some games on there that only a kid could love (or even have the energy to play!). Yes, it's gimmicky, but the convenience of walking into a room and saying "Xbox on" and having your whole entertainment system turn on without ever picking up a remote is pretty sweet.

If you haven't made the purchase Amazon and Walmart have the lowest price around for the Xbox one @ $329. Walmart was offering $50 gift card with purchase so if it's still available it would cover the extortion price to MS charges you to play online.

Found ourselves at the mall this morning for Santa pics, and managed to sneak away long enough at the Microsoft store. Was still going back and forth between the PS4 & XBox One, but it didn't hurt that it was right there in front of me (and I didn't want to come back to the mall again. )

XBox One + Kinect / Assassin's creed bundle was $429, which also included another 2 free games (Minecraft was free, Skylander was 1/2 price rather than free as it's $75 normally). Also picked up another controller & 12 months of xbox live, both discounted a bit.

I think this officially becomes a gift for Annie, who then will let the little monsters play with it depending on behavior. We're hopeful.
