Yes sir-re Pete, not going to find a shortage of 250s around here. Just a waiting to get the bike out, not with me right now but soon enough. Have it stored for winter like 3hours away so soon enough.

Yeah, I just moved back from Albuquerque, NM. Perfect riding weather all the time. Now I'm back in the east coast, the winter is killing me.

Haha, well. I'm originally from Jersey, moved to PA with family. Move in with my aunt & uncle in NM for work. Now I'm back in PA, but yeah. When I was living there, met a lot of bikers out there. It's the perfect place to ride. It barely rained & it's not humid like here on the east coast & the temp was perfect everyday.

Ello Petey. 250s and friendly people is just about all you'll find here. Unless you count an answer to any question you might have lol. The people here are obsessed. I think they did a giveaway for straightjackets last year . Easton isn't far from me, about an hour and a half. Us PA riders gotta put together a group ride sometime. Just pick the middle of the state and meet there lol. Anywayz, welcome to the forum. Glad you found us

I haven't owned a newgen 250 yet (I may get one for track use someday if I destroy my 250 completely again) but compared to the pregen 250 it's amazing. The handling is awesome and the midrange exists without needing to rejet the carbs. Fuel Injection makes daily riding so much less of a hassle though it's not that large of a difference if it's warm out. The bike is comfortable and easy to ride. I intend to keep it for as long as possible as a street bike even when I get faster bikes/track bikes/etc down the line. The insurance on it is low (relatively) and over time will go down, the fuel economy is good even though I thrash the **** out of it on the throttle. 40-45mpg off of an epa estimated 75~ is pretty hilarious but still good mileage. The only flaws are that the fairings pop out a bit (not secured right from factory) and it lacks top end power to me. But when it comes to power it would take minimum a 600 to satisfy me and that would likely end badly. I like how the 250/300s hold me back a bit until I truly have the skills to get me out of the stupid situations that immaturity gets me into. The bike is fast enough, though for highway use it can be a little high in the rev range the 250 is a few grand higher in rpms.

It's been talked about a lot and the 300 is definitely an all around improvement, the question is whether it's worth the extra money and to me it is since I commute on it daily. If I have my way I'll break 50-100k miles before handing it down to my brother I intend to keep it for a long time so even though I may not mod it often the mods will count when I do.

Sounds great ! I was thinking of either giving my 250r after I grow out of it to my little brother & get a 300 or go bigger with a 650 ! But I'm still on training wheels, haha. & yeah, insurance is really good on I guess lower cc bikes. Glad you're happy with the 300, I've heard some bad comments about it compared to a 250. That there isn't much difference & some just go for the cheaper end (Ninja 250).

As I said it's a matter of whether or not the extra performance and features are worth it to you over getting a 250 dirt cheap. Honestly if you only intend to ride it for a year or two then move up then by all means get the 250. But, if you intend to keep the bike for longer (assuming nothing drastic happens) then the 300 is probably the better deal. A lot of people are a bit bummed by the recalls and a few minor problems (mostly with the fairings being loose) so they'd rather get the tried and true 250 over the new and still a bit unstable 300.

+1 especially if it's free. Even if you've taken it before somewhere else. If it's free I'd take it again in the spring.

You can still take it from out of state in PA but I don't think it will carry over towards a different states licenses but still free, I was actually thinking of taking the advanced course in PA.

So if I have a friend who lives in MD and doesn't want to take the msf due to the price he could take it in PA for free even though it won't give him his license?

Yes ! I did take the safety course. Actually took the course in 2011, but never got on a bike until I bought my 250 last year, barely got to ride. From moving a lot & all. So, I'm still fairly new to riding & my skills are not great. Only been driving manual for 6 months now in a car. On 2 wheels ? About 3 months experience .& Ken, no name yet. Lol.

I'm actually closer to Interstate 78 & Route 33. So, border of Easton & Bethlehem. But I've always wanted to go down 611. Don't know where to start & end up. It's fun driving with a car, but I'm sure it's even better with a bike !
