Hurricane Matthew

It looks pretty grim for anyone on the east coast of Florida, and only slightly better for Georgia, and southern South Carolina, and I'm sure nearby areas will suffer as well. I have friends on Merritt Island, FL, and they may not have much left when it's over. The Intellicast prediction is for winds over 110 mph there. Everyone stay safe!

Got to Daytona for Biketoberfest early. Seems like it will be a Hurricane party first. Leaving the bike in the garage and getting the surf board out.

Everyone on the east coast please stay safe and evacuate if it gets close!

So far, the reports from my friends seem to be ok. Hoping everybody stays safe! I think most people are evacuating when told to go, so they'll be in safer areas.

If it takes the current predicted path, the Daytona coast could see 100+ mph wind for a few hours, and a 6-9 ft. storm surge. I don't know about staying around for a party.

So, are you saying wind surfing will be fun? I'm partying either way (dead or alive).

went to my trusty old fave news channel for an update, oh to see familiar faces even after being out of Tampa for 8 years...especially Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve, man I've seen so much of him on tv during hurricane season. Doesn't look like it will be much for Tampa, just tropical storm strength winds, but the east coast is going to get their bums kicked with high winds and storm surge. Good thing Florida changed the building codes after Andrew. Most buildings should hold up to the wind.

tried to embed the video update but it wouldn't work so here is the link

All shutters are installed and the Ninja is inside the garage.
Wind is blowing hard now and rain is abundant.
The worst part will be late night.
Power is now flicking and ready to disappear for several days.

Thanks, Teri

I hope you came through OK, Hernan. Same with everyone else in the way of the storm. I'm not in any danger here. I'm an hour north of Raleigh, in an area that can't flood. We're just getting a day an a half of moderate rain, and the wind is around 15 to 20 until midday tomorrow.

The eye of the hurricane (strongest winds) went by off shore and 75 mph was the max we felt here.
The damage was mostly down trees, electric cables and fences.

I watched the track pretty closely because of my friends on Merritt Island. You really did come pretty close to real trouble, and I'm glad it missed giving you a direct hit. My Mother in Law is now waiting for it to pass by her house in North Myrtle Beach, and it's pretty messy there now, with flooding and wind damage.

It's headed east now, and most of the computer models show it staying out in the Atlantic Ocean, but one still shows it heading back down to the Caribbean. Who knows? (and he ain't tellin')

As it got closer to land, it had less wind speed, but it did more damage over the Daytona-Jacksonville area.
Nothing compared to what Haiti, Cuba and Bahamas experienced, though.
It brings a lot of rain for sure.

Copied from:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Matthew

"At least 900 deaths have been attributed to the storm, including 877 in Haiti and 17 in the United States, making it the deadliest Atlantic hurricane since Stan in 2005, which killed more than 1,600 in Central America and Mexico. With the storm causing damages estimated in excess of US$5 billion, it was also the costliest Atlantic hurricane since Hurricane Sandy."

I lost my dock but nothing else. I didn't even lose power so I had A/C, TV, cold beer, hot food, but others around me were not so lucky.

Why do they name them American names? I think it'd be cool if they called one Hurricane Obliterator or something.
