Top Speed

i recently placed a full aftermarket leo vince exhaust on my ninjettte and a k&n filter an have had a top speed of 112 on the motorway at 13K revs. rather it was an accurate reading or not i dont know.
however seeing i didnt have my license when i had the bike stock i was wondering if there is much of a difference in speed between aftermarket n stock n wat other top speeds everyone else has had??

The speedometers are quite optimistic. The rev limiter in top gear (without any gearing changes) is around a true 105 mph.

It's been proven by a number of people using GPS systems that the EX-250 (both old generation and new generation bikes) have about an 8% speedometer error, and that error is "optimistic" meaning it says you're going faster than you think you are.

A few more scientifically-minded EX-250 riders have determined that the speedo error isn't 8% across the board. Rather, we generalize by saying it's an 8% error but in reality it's a bit less than 8% at lower speeds and about 8% at medium speeds and a bit more than 8% at the bike's highest speeds.

So I'd imagine that it would be realistic to say that at an indicated 112 mph you're probably seeing about a 9% error. So that would put you at 102 mph.

Beyond that, I see your bike is a European Fuel Injected model. When you put the free-breathing exhaust and intake on the bike did you also put in a Power Commander chip or do anything to re-map the fueling tables in the bike's ECU? If you didn't then the bike would be running lean because it's flowing more air but nothing has been done to cause it to inject more fuel (more air with the same fueling table equals a lower fuel/air ratio which means a leaner burn).

Running lean air/fuel ratios during high engine load conditions (wide open throttle) is a bit of a dangerous thing with respect to engine health. A lean air/fuel ratio means there's more oxygen left over after the fuel is burned inside the combustion chamber. That extra oxygen is always looking for something to combine with (burning fuel is really just oxidation that happens really quickly, as opposed to rust which is really slow oxidation of iron). The problem is that oxygen can combine with (oxidize) really hot aluminum, which is what your pistons are made of.

It all has to do with power .it takes 40hp to go 120 mph .30 hp will hit about 112 and the stock bikes go 110 down hill with a tailwind.but it takes a long time to reach that speed. Stock bolt on parts you will hit an honest 105.

Not sure, but couldn't go any faster...then a cop pulled out infront of me and I slammed on the brakes. He continued driving away and my heart could breath again, =]

Glad the police left you alone but I would get your heart checked out because last I heard your heart should be beating not breathing

im going to get it remapped after the weekend. i was told by the company i bought the exhaust off that nothing will need done to the bike for it to work properly but since its been on, the bike now makes a crackling sound now n then

jst got a quote there for the power comander and to get it remapped on the dyno. freaking £380 quid
