Valve checks for track bikes?

I've just crept up on 8,000kms (5,000 miles). It's only seen track miles since about 6,500kms. Should I get the valves checked soon as it's put under greater stress as a trackie or just get it done at the recommended time?

I'd just do it at the recommend amount, but it's completely up to your discretion.

I would have it checked at the recommended time. However, anything can happen, especially if it's a track bike.

Once a year? At least that's what I've been doing. I am not the fastest guy out there, though.

i would imagine the normal intervals are fine. They also experience high revs day to day if ridden on the freeway.

Yes and yes check. Run on tight side of spec for more overlap.

I raced ninja 250s for 4 years with WERA, numerous races. I checked the valves every season, always in spec. Don't sweat it too much.

Just checked mine after 100+ track days and 40 or so races. This bike has just over 8k miles (track since the first 1k) and all still in spec except one. So unless you punish your bike like I did mine over the past 2yrs... I am gunna have to agree with Jeff.

they often don't go out of spec until after the regular interval.

HOWEVER.

if you take your tracking super seriously, and you are religious about this crap, check it as often as it makes you feel good. some people (insane people) rebuild motors every month. if you do, inspect all bolts after changes for stretching and replace as needed. the only reason not to do an engine inspection if you are a competent mechanic is time. you dont have to change fluids or anything to do inspections. chances are good you may find a problem before it really becomes a problem (most of the time in some system unrelated to what you're initially inspecting)

One other thing to note. Your putting your butt on this bike and pushing it with everything you have. Physically putting your hands and eyes on you bike regularly, doing your maintenance for instance, can reveal problem areas befor they become problems. Just doing the basics I have found bolts that where staring to back out, missing chain master link clips, engine mount bolts that appeared tight but not tight enough the list goes on.

I check my valves annually between race seasons. My exhaust valves were tight after my first season. So better safe than sorry. It's easy to check and if your good KCCO

I may be the most anal...I actually check it the same time I do oil changes...so anywhere after 4-6 full track days. I do tend to run tighter tolerances.
