Vortex to possibly make a 420 kit for 08+ 250r

Hey guys,

I live near salt lake city, utah, which is where Vortex Racing's warehouse and headquarters are. They are a huge support to our local club racing here and are great people that offer great discounts to racers and riders alike.

I went to their warehouse to pick up a brake guard and while there i saw a groom with their stuff all tricked out on it and it had a 420 chain kit. I was thinking about the GP bikes i saw out at the track last race weekend and alot of them were running 428 or 410 kits. They make more horsepower then our 250s do so i feel that the 420 kit would definitely stand up to the power our bikes make.

After looking into it based on what the groom had and discussing it with one of the developers there at vortex they said they will see about producing a 420 kit for us to use. They dont make the rear sprocket with the correct number of teeth but can easily change that as they do all their CNC'ing in house, not outsourced to china or some other country. The front sprocket they had supplied from another producer and the chain they also had supplied but they said its something they could easily put together as a kit.

Im just looking to hear your thoughts and ideas and if you guys would have any interest or not.. This would be more of a race application but could also be used on the street machines. Advantages would be weight savings (multiplied by the centrifugal force) and less power loss from a thicker chain as more is easily transferred from the drive to the chain to the rear sprocket in the smaller set up.

What are your thoughts, ideas, qualms etc.. Interest here could directly impact whether or not it is put into production

This place makes a 415. A 420 would be good for people that like to be a little more cautious but there are write ups on this site somewhere about the 415 kits and racers seemed to have decent things to say even about wear and stretch.

i guess they still offer them, it seems to be up on the website

http://www.aftermarketcycles.com/nin...ocket-set.html

I talked to Sidewinder sprockets about making a 428 conversion kit but they said that they have tried and they have issues with the front sprocket, they did not divulge any of the details

useful link with some decent info

I think a 420 would be nice if the kit was priced right

My 2¢,

If I was track ONLY I might consider this, but weight saving, I'd be better off going on a diet and dropping a few of my own pounds LOL

For the street, I would stick with the OEM set up and steel gears

What would be the weight difference between a 420 and a 520?

LOL true, I would prefer the 520 set-up but how cool would it be if it was all made of titanium chain, gears nuts, and bolts

^ notice the weight on the Ti sprockets are not much less than the steel. If you want to save weight go aluminum.

P.S. I have one of the Ti rears. Was it worth it.... probably not
