Track Bike: Pregen or Newgen?

So I'm looking at getting a track bike and holy ****, the prices on 250s only got worse with the 300 being released. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/m...&sort=pricedsc

We've got crashed newgens going for $3500 and pristine pregens going for $3300.....

Ideally, I'd like a newgen but with ratty pregens available for $2,000 less, I'm considering that.

So, opinions on newgen vs pregen for track riding? Upgrades needed? With the newgen I think I'd be fine with some SS brake lines and bohemian racing rearsets. What about for the pregen?

I already have race plastics for a newgen too. Also this bike will be ridden by my gf on the street until she buys her own so I'll be converting it back and forth when I do go to the track.

You will definitely need a rear shock & wheel upgrade if you go pregen. I have both and I choose newgen for those 2 reasons alone.

Go with a Newgen.
More parts, and you can put better tyres on it without much effort.

yeah the 17in wheel prices are insane in every market I have seen making it not all that cost effective to try and convert unless you have the bike already.

Yeah, the tire selection is really the biggest downside of the pregen

I mean a pregen will still be great for you to learn and thrash on, but a newgen will give you many more options with aftermarket support and tire choice.

You got street plastics and lights for it? Does it actually run? Is the engine included?

Not a bad deal for a running FZR 600. Probably wouldn't take much to get her track ready.

Alex, if Jiggles dies it's on your hands.

Jiggles, get a newgen. Wheels, better suspension, more parts, etc.

I know someone in SoCal selling their 2011 Ninja 250. A lot of us CVMA racers can put you in touch with Issey. (it's not Issey's bike)

I seen a few new gen 250 (09) track bikes for sale here in the south east. You could probably get one for $2K. They are very popular at the tracks in Florida and Alabama.
