In fact, the more we talk about this, the further it will be devalued. Why? Because google puts high rank on the page's title. And aside of the first post, nothing of value in relation to the title has been added.

I hear that it demotes links when it detects self-promotion and attempts to influence rankings.

CZ might have a point. No, one thread isn't going to kill rankings, and one thread won't save rankings either. But over time, the more content we have here that can be determined to be relevant for the ninja 300, the more folks will see the search results to bring them over here to play.

@Jiggles - I edited your posts with the hidden text. Today we got punted down to page 7 of results from page 4 yesterday. If anyone knew the ins and outs of exactly how Google's algorithms work (other than the few people who code them), I imagine they'd never have to pick up a dinner check in this lifetime.

SEO 101.... This will not help, only hurt.

Two huge flaws;
Repetition of keywords
No contextual content in relation to page title

There are more details in a thread somewhere in Forum Info on exactly what is done here to help the search results. Primarily, I run an automated tool that gathers every single URL on this site, and puts it in a standard format for consumption by search engines, called a "sitemap". That updates once per day, and google is notified that there is a new one to grab. Their bots pick up that sitemap file several times every day, add those URL's to their index to be scanned, and it then comes and reads the rest of the content on the page. Also, since we use google adsense, they have an immediate notification of a URL that exists and is being hit, as soon as someone does pull up a page here that has an ad on it (virtually all of them, due to the header and footer). That's why just minutes after you create a new thread here, if you search for that title exactly in google, it will likely already be the top entry in their database, even though it has only existed for a few minutes.

So don't get the wrong impression, Google knows all about this site, and I do what I can to have their index treat us favorably, but sometimes it's easier to get penalized quickly than it is to move things up quickly. I didn't hop on the domain names as quickly as I should have when the 300 was announced, which would have made this job a little easier. We do have:

www.ninja300forum.net

and

www.ninja300forum.org

in case referring to those at some point would be more appropriate for the content on the site. (they, along with the 20+ other domains listed down in that forum info thread, are already live and point to our main site. the newest entertaining one is jiggles favorite, www.ninjetteporn.com)

I have spent some time on this.

Would it help if we went on google, searched for a forum for the new ninjette, and then searched for our beloved little forums? that would make ninjette.org "more relevant" based on the number of times it was chosen over the other options right?

and Chris, that all just went right over my head... Internet is confusing. I still don't get it.

Lol chone, this is what I do for a living in way. When I design the backend of a website, I pay attention to all kinds of things like; url structure, page titles, html structure, content that is an image vs text and all the way down to the first H1 tag and what content shows up in the first <p> tag.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if search trends like you propose effects ranking and position. After all that is a form of relevance right.... Google does everything possible to make content king. The only thing I have found that can trip up their algo's for page rank is google +1. It must have a stupid high value. Even more so than companies paying peeps to work at home to post links and comments on blogs and forums that link back to their website. I sure most of us has heard of that. The company that I am working for is currently outsourcing users to +1 their content. Sad but true but is currently working to up their rankings and position in search result listings.

Even a crappy designed website can have high page rank if they have top quality content. There are so many other factors as well. For example; Take the exact same article content and post it two different web sites. Give it a week and then search.... Who is going to get listed first in the results? The older more trusted site or the other newer site. This one is easy but if you figure it out when it's not easy, contact me and I will buy the secret from you.

It can be put on the site or you can add it to the browser as an addin. I currently as an addin so I can +1 any content that I run across, even the site doesn't have a +1 right on the page. Alex can then check the +1's in google webmaster tools.

I will +1 this page so Alex can see.

That makes more sense. I would ask my sister's fiance to explain it to me, but he did technical manuals and stuff like that when he was interning at Google, not to mention he's so freaking bright that he'd really have to dumb down the internet-speak for me.

I'll +1 ninjette! I've never +1'd before, but I'm always game to start.

Jiggles, put this in your first post, it's currently ranked 5th now.

Quote:
Hi all -

I just created another subforum for 300-specific general discussion. Historically, I would have liked to keep all of this in General, but our site has gotten so busy that for a new user coming here for the first time, it might look like we have very little content about the new bike.

And since we have 3000+ posts about it, with over 100,000 views, putting it in its own area cements the idea that we want this site to continue to be the number one destination for all fans of the smallest ninja, and makes it clear that even now, we have far more content than all of the sites that have recently sprouted.

I'm not unaware that in some ways the strong growth of ninjette.org came out of kawi's redesign in '08, when some of the existing pre-gen sites didn't support the new bike soon enough. It would be a shame if we let the same thing happen to us with this current redesign, so if there's anything I can or should be doing to provide appropriate support for this new model, please let me know!

It's already there in the description. Plenty of references to this being a forum, a reference to the 300/250 focus, along with all of the continuously updated thread data that makes its way to that page. I think we're pretty good at this point, and now should continue to work on adding ninja 300-specific content to continue to make this a place that people want to participate in, once their searches drop them off at the front door.

I first found ninjette.org when I was looking for info of how would the 2013 model be (I was hoping for a digital display...)
I found someone's April fool's joke....
the bike turned out better than he hoped but he made a really good guess....

Floyd was quite the prognosticator.

It's doubly funny that it started out as an April Fool's gag.
