Some pics of my new bike
So I've already made a few other posts recently, but I figured I should properly introduce myself with a few pics of my new toy. It's an 08 Ninja 250R that I bought with 1330 miles for $2,500. You may notice in the pics that the right fairing is off; that's because there was a small crack in it that I patched up with a bumper repair kit (epoxy+mesh stuff). Just gotta do a little touchup work with the Color Rite pen and it'll be back on in no time. As you can see, I already have my gear, I might get some pants and some shoes that cover my ankles but besides that, I'm pretty much set. I should also be getting my lowering kit and Shogun Crash kit on monday.

If you're worrying about protecting the bike from a crash, you need to worry about protecting your lower half. Get the pants and boots - you won't regret it!

It's not so much crashing that I'm worried about, it's the low or no speed tip overs. I didn't buy the frame sliders to prevent damage at 50mph, only like 0-2mph. That said, I'm definitely looking into some shoes and pants. |

Yeah, I got an awesome deal on the helmet too. It's a Vemar VSREV that retails for $475. I got it on clearance at motorcyclesuperstore.com for $130.
On another note, since this is my noob thread, I'll ask a noob question. I've been reading a lot about oil changes for these bikes and I'm wondering what I should use as my winter storage oil. The bike had it's first oil change done at 500mi, according to the previous owner, and it's now at 1,330. From what I've read, this isn't the best scenario since it's best to change the oil a lot in the first 1,000mi. I probably won't get too much riding in til next spring because it's going to start getting cold soon and I don't have time to take the MSF coarse now. That said, I'll probably put another <30 or so miles on it cruising around my neighborhood and getting a feel for the bike. Considering that the bike won't be run in the winter months, what weight of oil should I use and should it be regular automotive oil or motorcycle specific oil? After I get the winter out of the way, I'll do some more research and fill her up with some nice synthetic oil. |

nice
Besides the nice jacket and helmet i think you got a good deal on the bike. Only $2500? Is that what the price is for an 08 now?

Do you guys think some Dickies pants would be good? Those have a really thick material and they don't cost and arm and a leg like actual riding pants. |

You already know the answer to this question from your way of wording it. It's not just the abrasion resistance that you need, but the armor. Those pants are also not made to sustain sliding along the pavement. IMHO save the money ou'd spend on those and put them towards some actual riding pants.
You can easily get all-season pants from places like new enough and motorcyclecloseouts http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/s...mesh+overpants http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/s...le+jackets/all http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/t...ets_and_pants/ http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/bargain_basement/

I can't find anything in my size. I need pants with a 28" inseam and everything seems to start at 30" minimum.

Check out the Joe Rocket Ballistic pants. I know the women's have an adjustable inseam... aside from that the only difference would be the side the snap is on.... or maybe you could even take their solution (a row of snaps on the inside of the cuff in 2 places so you can secure them rolled up on the inside) and apply it to a pair of pants that you like?
