Anyone have a Transitions shield?

My current helmet has a flip-down sun visor and it's way better than having to carry two shields. But for the future, I'm intrigued by the Transitions self-darkening shields.

Right now they're available only for Bell helmets but I don't seem to have a Bell head. They're coming for Shoei, though.

Anyone have one? I have two questions:

1) When it darkens, what's the color like? Early photochromic glasses had this hideous purple color. I wonder if that's been improved. I much prefer a gray lens in sunglasses... true colors, just darker.

2) How dark does it really get? The flip-down visor in my helmet is a fairly typical sunglasses gray, which I believe is 85 percent. Not the uber-dark that you sometimes see, but dark enough to work well while still allowing vision on shady stretches.

I'm getting the Shoei shield when it comes out (hopefully in January).

I've heard a lot of good about them. Just pricey. The bell one was around $120 when I was looking and the Shoei one will be $150.

akuma helmets also carries a transition shield, that also transitions to mirrored (photochromic?) and is also treated with their aegis hydrophobic treatment. It allows the helmet to repel water and dirt. Making it easy to clean.

I have one on my Bell helmet and I absolutely love it. I wish all brands of helmets came with them. I am glad Shoei is now coming out with one too, however Shoei's transition's shield is more expensive than Bell, $152 versus $119.

1.) When it darkens, the color is like sunglasses gray, it's a true color. Not sure on the percentage, but it's dark enough for me. I also wear glasses, so I wear my regular glasses with this thing and it does the job well. I also have prescription sunglasses and it's the same color as the photochromic shield, gray and true color. I have had no issues with it being too dark or too light. No complaints from my end at all.

2.) Unless you get really close, you can't see inside from afar, this is how dark it really gets...

Ya Andy i have one on my helmet. Its just like sunglasses, if your right at the sun youll still get a bit squinty, but other than that it works great.
