Ninja 300 engine in new gen 250 chassis?

Anyone know if the new 300 engine will bolt right in to a new gen 250 frame? Would be a neat option for those who wear out the 250 engine to simply add a used 300 engine.

I don't know.

I believe that the hardest part would be to find a used 300 engine, since there are not as many units rolling as 250s'.

The engine is now rubber-mounted so the engine mounts are probably different. They beefed up the frame specifically because the engine is no longer a stressed member of it, so I wouldn't just use the new mounts even if they just bolted on.

Def interested in getting a hold of one to see if i can design a frame around it using software.

Do the plated bore engines not respond well to being used as a structural member?

I heard that the bore is plated with a super hard substance, instead of using a metal liner like the 250 motors.

Was wondering if that played a role in the decision to remove it as a structural member.

It will fit. And I am going to punch it out to 325 and run it on nitrous and ethanol.

No but I am looking. Thinking about using a 500 ninja frame and building the bike around the fuel system. I can go to 350cc once I go over 249 .

It may just be marketing spin, but their official reason was to reduce vibration and make it feel like a more expensive bike. They said the same thing about why it now directs hot air down and out but I think it might have had something to to with the heat causing the tank to form a vacuum when allowed to rest after a full warm up.

No but they are getting cheaper every day. I found a 94 with 17 inch wheels and a running motor for 500 bucks. I don't need the body work, motor ,tank wiring or lights. Just the frame ,fork, swing arm and wheels. And rear brakes. so I figure a clapped out 500 that has fallen over and does not run any more is like free.

Sorry about jacking the thread.

If some one ships a 300 engine to Jiggles, I'm sure he'd have this thread up in short order:
"How to install a 300 in a new gen frame!"

Jiggles, If anyone sends you a 300 engine, I get your old engine as a finders fee!!!! (the least you can do )

there was a thread started on this: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=153624

also, "plated bore" motors are designed to be stronger and lighter than their counterparts. Every superbike and supersport uses the motor as a stressed member. The NiSi plating is SUPER strong.

I truly do hope this works. The 500 motor caused WAY too many issues.
