race tires size/brand

Just was wondering what brand and tire combination you guys are using at the track. I just got the 110 front and 150 rear in the stones.

I have heard good things about the Pirellis. Seems like that's what a lot of the Cali boys rock.

We use em here on the east side too, although many still use the BT003's here.

Ive tried a few,

003 rears were magic, the fronts turned to mush,
SC1 fronts are magic, rears are hopeless as 150's jut don't work,

Then went to Rosso2 rear.. amazing.
now I need a new front I think I'll stick with this seemingly odd combination of SC1 front/Rosso2 rear.

Or try a Rosso2 front.

And in the Midwest . I'm running Rosas II's front and back. Started on Bridgestones, they weren't bad but they aren't as good as the Pirelli's.

Don't forget the Bridgestone slicks. Most of the fast guys in socal run them, partly due to the great contingency that covers the fact that they don't last as long.

They are the GP3 tires meant for a 125 bike. 90 profile front, 120 rear. They are skinny, but have tons of grip.

Do they grip better than the BT-003?

Any Bstone race tire distributor. Should be $275ish a set.

You want the GP-Mono R03Z YCX front and R04Z YCY rear (not the GP3 as I said above, that was wrong). Run them at 30 or 31 psi hot.

I get 2 race weekends out of a front and 3 maybe 4 from a rear at ~5sec behind lap record pace. More like 1 front per weekend if you're fighting for the win. Slow down a couple more seconds and a 3+ weekend old front feels fine.

I believe all the lap records on the West Coast have been set by this tire combination. I know my bike has Las Vegas at 1:29.1 set by rider Andrew Lee.

Draik switched from the b-stones 120/140 combo, popular in the southeast, to Pirelli Rosso II 110 and SC1 150. We were throughly pleased with the switch. His lap times dropped, feel on the bike is much better, and he can drop into the corners a lot better.

Running the Bridgestone GP125 slicks that sierrahotel mentioned

Also running the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC2 110 front and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II 140 rear. My current Pirelli setup is great for trackdays because the fronts barely look worn.

My SC2 front tire has now... 3 weekends at Sonoma, a two-day weekend at Buttonwillow, and two race weekends at CVMA. Still like 50% tread left!

I'm pretty sure Fogle's CCW record at CVR was on the Bridgestone Slicks.

Ok so I am going to make the switch to this set of tires for this season.
Where can I order them from. Can't find them online and we don't have a dedicated dealer at our track. Just want to try something other than the stones I have been running on all my bikes. Thanks James

the 140 you can usually get from Sportbike track gear. The supercorsa has to be ordered from a Pirelli vendor if you're west of the mississippi. No idea why....

You can order your DOT race tire front online from Racer's Edge Performance (they are trackside to us for events at Chuckwalla).

If Racer's Edge Performance can't help you, you can try CT Racing

I ran the Pirelli SC1's in 110/150 last year on my 300, they wore like iron and had decent grip. Switching to the Bridgestone 250 GP slicks this year as soon as my Marchesini wheels come in. If I don't have the wheels before the first event in April, I might try the 125 GP slicks. My shop is the Bridgestone race tire distrubutor for the Midwest region so I kind of have a vested interest in running them....

I've been running the Dunlop Unbeaten. They work good for me but I think I'm going to try the Dunlop 211 120 up front this season.
I would also like to try the Pirellis...Heard alot of good things about them.

I constantly flip flop between a Pirelli setup and a Dunlop setup. They both work really well. They just have different characteristics.

My endurance team ran the 120/140 bt003r/RS combo last year. I enjoyed them, but wanted a 110 front, I will try the Pirelli combo of sc1 110/140 Rosso II the first two races and see how I like them. If I am not impressed I may try either the 120/140 r10/bt003rs or the 120/150 Gpa/unbeaten. The benefit to the unbeaten combo is I can use the fronts on my big bike for track days and I would just have to buy the tears. We will see.

The Ninja 250 lap record at CVR is held by a rider using the Bridgestone 125GP slicks.

I run the same setup as Josh does. It's a 90mm front tire and 120mm rear. They stick like glue and you can carve any line you want on the track. We run this setup mainly because Bridgestone pays out the most contingency at CVMA so when you podium you're getting tire money for the next race round. It's always nice to get tire money in the mail.

Oversize are 17"x3" front and 17"x4.5" rear. Matte black, gloss black or gold. I went with oversize gold, pre-ordered them and they're supposed to be out late March/early April. No pictures yet since they don't exist, but we should be getting some from our Marchesini sales rep soon hopefully, when I get them I'll post up.

Is there a reason why a lot of people are not using a 120 sc1 or 150 sc1.
I thought some people may be using 120 sc1 with a Ross 140 rear or 110sc1 with a 150sc1 rear. What are some of the benifits and drawbacks for using a 110/120 front and 140/150 rear. Last season I had a 110 bstone front and 150 rear. I never trusted the front and the rear always felt have and like it didn't want to let me drop in the corners....

While the 120/150 set up does allow for better tire options, the 150 tends to be slightly pinched on the wheel, and changes the flick ability of the bike, which is one of the benefits I this awesome little machine. The 120/110 debate is one that could go either way. The 120 size allows for race DOT tired to be used. You will never reach the edge of these tires prior to scraping hard parts. Also it raised the front end ever so slightly so changing the geometry of the bike back down is another thing with the 120. The front end grip for these bikes is all that really matters, and you will not break loose the rear because of acceleration with a supersport tire. In saying that, a lot f the fast guys run the sc1/Rosso I I (110/140) set up because it's the best of both worlds. DOT tire up front with a 110, and a ss tire in the rear on a 140 which isn't pinched at all. The other option seems to be the unbeaten setup with a 110/150 setup both DOT race tires. This 150 was specifically designed for the 250 and allows the bike to remain flick able. But people seem to replace the 110 front of the unbeatens with a 120 GPA because of the outright grip. There are trade offs of both, and the Pirelli setup seems to be the choice of most, but the bridgestones and the dunlops win races also. It's a trade off for the tire sizes an what you can afford and how you want the bike to act.
