Engine ticking/tapping type noise

Please do not tell me I bought and wasted my time swapping my previous engine for a defective one. I've already had to replace the spark plugs on this engine. And now I hear this ticking noise. I thought it was a leak on the exhaust headers. But after listening to my previous engine's sound it sounds very similar aka a loose cam chain. I already replaced the CCT but the ticking continues.

This is my first bike and I've already put so much time and effort into this swap and fixing all the problems. Really frustrating to find out that the engine is a dud. I'm not sure what to do, I'm just a newbie and this is too overwhelming.

bump!

Some ticking is normal. It's a 250 Josh, they are not the quietest of engines. Run it, keep and eye on the oil, coolant, plugs and exhaust. Maybe even pay close mind to the smell of the exhaust. Otherwise... ride on sir. Post a video if needed or at least audio of the engine sound.

Best!

The valves may need shimming but like Chris said: they are noisy engines!

If it's a pregen they just need adjusting, not shimming.
