Chivalry is not dead in Michigan

I stopped at a Taco Bell the other day and sat near a young couple. They finished their meal and headed to the parking lot toward two motorcycles. I'm not sure of the make or models of the bikes but they looked to be in the 500cc class. To my amazement the guy goes over to the lady's bike, hikes it up (both wheels off the ground) on the side stand, spins the bike 180 degrees, and places it down pointing out of the parking slot. I've never seen anybody do this before. I wonder what his next move will be if the side stand shears off the frame mount? Pretty neat trick though, I could live another 100 years and not think of doing that. Do any of you guys do this?

Bill

It can bend the kickstand mounting ears. Easily fixed/replaced. Tab on frame more troublesome to repair. Nothing a little cutting & welding can't fix though.

I wouldn't do it to the relatively flimsy side stand on my old H2, but the beefy one on my Guzzi could take that with someone sitting on the bike. Probably with two people sitting on the bike.

I do it with the 250s, but not the Z1R....it's too heavy for this old fart to handle on one balance point.

I've done it too, but only on bikes less than 400 lbs.

Wow, I've got 50+ years of riding experience and it never occurred to me to do that. Well, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I've seen it done. I wouldn't try it, though, given that I'm short and may not have enough leverage to get it moved securely.

Yup super useful in a tight spot or if you just want to shimmy the bike around a little(or a lot lol) I use it a lot more offroading than I do on the street though

I've even seen folks do this on Ducati's, which is not generally a smart thing to do, as most of the side stands bolt directly to the aluminum engine case.

I'll check off side stand spinning along with wheelies and stopies.
