Why no standard on gear?
So all this talk of gear on this site got me thinking why is there no stander for gear like with helmets?

The cost/benefit of a helmet is easy to advertise, much like seatbelts and bicycle helmets.
Not as easy with vague rubber armor inserts behind thick nylon and leather. It's easy to see which one legislation will favor. |

CE-2 is where its at now. |

Yes CE rating is always a good thing. The Europeans seem to be way ahead of us here in the colonies. Even their helmet rating system is more strict I do believe.
One must be careful that some jackets have CE armour in the elbows, and shoulders, but only come with a piece of foam for the back. This is a money making scheme to sell you the CE rated back protection. So be sure that in the future you look for the CE armour ratings. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_armor

It's a manufacturer standard, not a law like DOT.
Some states require a helmet must meet DOT standards to be legal, same as a SNELL APPROVED for tracks etc.....

I think you missed the fundamental there... Until there is a min. standard by law that one must adhere to, then there is no need for a standard in the first place.
