Thumbs up Getting motorcycle license in February!!

Going for my motorbike licence in February wanted to get it sooner but all booked out, on the 15th of February I'm doing the motorcycle introduction course to help me more and on the 18th I'm doing the actual motorcycle learners permit test to get my licence!

I'm doing the course at DECA in Melbourne Australia the total costs comes to about $386, the motorbike I'm planing on getting is a Kawasaki Ninja 300 white! I'm so excited I can't wait I hope I pass

The helmet I brought is the SHOEI Diabolical Feud White an Black, and Aplinestars SP2 gloves, following along with Aplinestars 2 piece when I get the money.

any help/advise will be VERY appreciative,

Thanks,
Jake, Melbourne

Pay attention, relax. Those are the two things that helped me the most... I know because relax is the only thing my teachers said besides "good job", and "you aren't on a dirtbike keep your foot up".
Best of luck! It's really not that hard, just pay attention, learn, and relax!

@DEFY
I thought they told us to cover our clutch an brakes... I'm pretty sure I didn't do it, and rarely do now unless I sense or see a reason that calls for cover

@JohnnyBravo
Cover clutch, not brake, I have a tendancy of leaving my middle and index fingers on brake. Not suppost to cover brake cause you may accidently pull it say in a corner, at least thats my belief. Thats what they kept telling me when I took the MSF.

Die? That would be messed up, controlled environment I wouldn't think that would have a slim chance of happening. I think more people walk away with a sore ego then anything. Just a note, depending on the MSF rules, if you tip over your bike don't give up. I had one person wreck once during my MSF and they walked off, don't let the idea of others watching make you feel less determined.

If a 19 year old can take out a dozen bikes on a test ride, I'm sure someone can find some way to die in the MSF course... Every hear of a heart attack?

Freak accidents happen all the time.

Quote:
DEWITT -- An Elbridge woman died over the weekend after she crashed a motorcycle in a parking lot where she was taking a training class with her husband.

DeWitt Police confirm 39-year-old Marianne Pitcher died in a motorcycle accident at ShoppingTown Mall around 10:00 Sunday morning. Relatives say Pitcher died after crashing during a pre-licensing motorcycle training class she was taking with her husband. They say the couple was planning to take a motorcycle vacation trip next summer.

Police say Pitcher was participating in a course presented by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and was in the second day of the two-day course. She was operating a motorcycle provided by the organization and was wearing a full face helmet. Witnesses say she was driving slowly when the motorcycle pitched to the side, causing her to fall off and hit the pavement.

Pitcher, a manager at a fast-food restaurant, was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say an investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing, and will include an autopsy by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.

NOW, back to the topic. I apologize to OP for taking his NEW BIKE thread in this direction

ive only heard of three deaths in msf history and one was because the rider hid their heart problems and when a bike went down their ticker stopped. one, was a low speed head wound, with a full face helmet on 39 year old woman. and one was a 50 something year old man, dont know the details on that one.

the fact is there are dangers all around us, but i feel the risk of learning safe riding is nothing compared to your average trip to walmart.

Do you know how to ride a bicycle, Jack?
If so, practice tight maneuvers and fine balance at veeeeeeeeeeery low speeds in a safe environment.

You may have something similar over there, but in the meanwhile, you can get familiar with the study material posted here:

Whew it's warm down there! <3 ya to! Idk where you would be without us, probly the same place with less info and a few things less to laugh at!

I admit this may have been the wrong place for some info, the thread jack was a bit dark yet still informative... I doubt defy's staying alive comment was on point in your situation (I hope) but it does show things happen... Pay attention and learn all you can, you will be better with the course than without! More motorcycle death occurs for lack of training than because of it I assure you, but accidents will happen regardless... Keep your head on a swivel, and you wits about. I assure you more folks here would prefer to meet and ride with you than would defer! Happy trails compadre... Happy trails!!! We all wish you long and happy motorcycling!

I don't remember stating to stay alive during his MSF course, I say that to commuters and all those riding daily. I don't feel he has to worry about dieing during his MSF course (OP: sorry if you feel this is a possibility just have fun and learn, cut this thought out of your mind lol).

I hope we didn't put that in his mind, but with a total of four possible deaths (easily explained away) out of millions, I would hope he wouldn't worry much. It's better to be trained than thrown to the wolves any day!!!

This is the interesting part where we only have two courses available learners and advanced other places, example Europe, have multiple. There is a vlogger that is an instructor I watch that has all the different coarses people have to take inorder to get their license where he is from, very interesting to see what they have to go through and the lessons.

Congrats on your decision to get your license! The best advice I can give if you haven't ridden a lot before is do some exercises for your clutch hand. Get a squeeze/stress ball and walk around squeezing it for several days. You will have to pull in and hold the clutch and brake a lot during the class and if you are not used to this motion you will be sore the next day after your class while trying to da your test. Most of the low speed maneuvers you have to do require you to use the clutch a lot and you don't want the disadvantage of being sore or stiff in your clutch hand when you are stressed trying to pass a test. Also great advice above that you are taking the class to LEARN how to ride correctly so you DONT know yet and crashing may occur so don't let it get too you. A guy crashed 5 times in my wifes class (im sure you will be fine don't let this scare you) but they still let him pass in the end and he got his license. Just relax, listen and don't try to do anything faster than you need too.

GOOD LUCK and post pics of your new bike!

I wish I had your problem! I have 3 bikes all covered up in the basement and the weather here is like 2-3 degrees celcius. This is just above freezing during the day and much colder at night. I have only been able to sneak in 2 10 minuite rides since November last year. Once you get your license and bike you will be able to ride much more of the year than we yanks. Well best of luck in getting your license and pray for your brothers under the winter lock down

I'm jealous of that aussie heat wave. Make sure that you have that A* 2 piece or at least the jacket before you head out on your bike, the msf won't require them since they're not needed in a parking lot but once you're on the street the worst time to squid is your first season when you're particularly inexperienced.

you don't have to not squid ever, it feels amazing. I'm just saying don't do it while you're still new to the controls because you're far more likely to make a mistake.

How does an Ozzie not eat seafood?

I'm guilty of squidding every now and then, every fort night or so. God damn I just hope nothing bad happens when I do

Most important thing about gear is to make sure you get stuff you'll actually want to wear. I imagine it gets hot as balls down under, so some good mesh gear will serve you well. No point in buying top quality leathers if the heat makes you want to avoid wearing them. Just food for thought nomnom
