Has anyone completely removed their Evap Canister?
Thought I'd tinker with the bike a little: I took out the Evap canister off my Honda CBR600RR so I got to thinking, "Why not the 250?"
Looking at the lines, it just didn't make sense to me because the newer & older 250 engines are basically the same. But the older 250s didn't have the evap. So, I took off the evap, plugged 3 lines and I'm hoping for the best. Sucker weighs a ton and there's a lot of junk. |

I believe you need to leave one of those lines vented (can't remember which one) or the bike will stall from fuel starvation when run at high speeds for a length of time. If that happens to you, in the meantime, pop the gas tank cover open and the bike will run for a while until it starves out of fuel again. PM Vex to see which line you need to vent.

I see. I Google'd it. What's the benefit aside from the loss of 2-3lbs? My boat used to be like that, periodically I'd have to unscrew the tank cap a bit to let some pressure in.

The only line I left unplugged is the overflow gas line from the gas tank.

Looks like I was on the right trail. And based on my educated hypothesis I plugged and unplugged the correct lines. |

The biggest danger in mistakenly plugging the tank vent is that - in extreme circumstances - you can create such a vacuum as to partially collapse the tank itself.
Don't ask me how I know this With the canister still installed, a lot of times if you really top off the tank, you can vent into the charcoal bucket and flood it - rendering it useless for environmental purposes and making your bike run like crap, if at all. |

I did a test run yesterday and man did the bike feel better. Strangely, the throttle response felt smoother. And the exhaust note sounded different. Different in the sense that the exhaust notes were closer than further apart. It's hard for me to explain but know that the bike felt better.
I'm lovin' it! |

coincidentally....some similar "leftovers" here after doing a recent Ducati service
Junk created a serious impediment to service access.

perhaps member @DannoXYZ will chime in. I'm sure he's done a few and will provide accurate info on ramifications (if any) on the ninjette.
Though different application...too late for me (sorry Greta ) calling member @danno, come in @danno

HI ducatiman!!!
Nothing, if anything it would make your cats last longer. Here's how the EVAP works: 1. when sitting, petrol in gas-tank evaporates naturally. Actual amount will vary depending upon ambient temp and humidity. Normally, this evaporated petrol just vents to atmosphere, typically through gas-cap and drain hose. On warm days when you walk into garage, faint smell of petrol is this vapour evaporated from tank. It's nifty system that recycles petrol that would normally be lost through evaporation and less of it ends up as smog in our atmosphere causing all sorts of issues. Rates of asthma in kids has skyrocketed in past couple decades, wonder if it's related? Anyway, removing EVAP canister will result in lower AFR (leaner mixtures under high-load). Leaner mixtures means LESS unburnt fuel hitting your catalytic, and it would run at lower-tempertures and last longer. Another related system is PAIR which pumps extra air into your exhaust to help cat burn up excess petrol. Removing both would result in no changes to your bike's operation, just more polution in air. Although factory jetting for high-load is super-rich, more than 10:1 AFR. So leaning out mixtures would actually give you more power (max-HP occurs at 13.5:1 on NA engines). I'm not sure of actual amounts contributed by EVAP canister, but I don't think it's enough to actually be measureable in engine-output. |
