Stalling Problem

Hey guys I'm new to the forum basically been lurking a little more then posting but decided to make an account. So on to my problem I'm having is that the bike will stall and die when I put the bike in first gear. I recently had to replace the bolt that the clutch lever pivots off of because my old one stripped but the bike rode fine after replacing it. I stopped at a friends earlier and got back on the bike and started it up in Neutral but when I put the bike in first it would just cut off. I had the kick stand up and I even tried to start the bike in first with clutch engaged and bike would not start. Also when the bikes off and its in 1st gear the bike will still roll with clutch not engaged. clutch cable is tight and feels like its engaging fine. Anyone have any suggestions? or maybe some common problems found with clutch engagement on the ninja's? mine is a 2008 by the way

Check clutch adjustment
Check kickstand sensor

How can the bike take off in 1st gear if it stalls whenever you put it into first gear?

^^^ This sounds about right.

Try this and let us know.

Put bike in neutral, kickstand down, key on and try to push the start button. Does it try to turn over and start?

Try exact same procedure with kickstand up.

EDIT: nevermind... I misread, you have already done that.

Let us know how you fair.

clutch cable was tightened and it was engaging, bike goes into first but it stalls and it wont start in first. Question about the kickstand sensor, would it still be a factor even if I had it up like could it possibly be reading that its still down? when in reality its not

The whole idea about a kickstand sensor is that it reads whether the kickstand is down or up.

If the sensor is reading the opposite of what is really going on, the sensor is bad.

Can it be bypassed to see if this is the problem?

Bypassing a safety is not generally a good idea. But it is always possible to bypass sensors like this. You just have to find out how to either close or open the circuit to trick it.

The better way to test it is to do what was said earlier by csmith12.

There is a clutch sensor in the lever you adjusted. I'm pretty sure you broke it. Many people have. It may also be that the plastic pin is not moving. Check it. With a broken clutch sensor, you will only be able to start in neutral even if the kick stand is up and you are holding the clutch in.
