Unhappy RIP Kenny Anderson aka Iceman

Another very sad day for the motorcycle community as we have lost one of our young guns do what he loved.

Godspeed Iceman

From Kenny's farther

Kenny was declared brain dead today. He died doing what he loved, and what he excelled at. I have no doubt that there was nowhere on Earth Kenny would rather have been last weekend than at the racetrack, racing his motorcycles and hanging out with his friends. I'm sorry that all the thoughts and prayers we have received were not enough to bring him back, but please know that your love and comforting words really helped us get through the past week. Please keep Kenny The Iceman #12 in your thoughts. Live your lives to the fullest, and hug your children every day.

Terrible. Hard to hold back tears, the kid was 12 years old for petes sake. It's just not fair. Makes me think of others we've lost like Peter Lenz.

Man I've been watching his facebook since his crash and really rooting for him. This is so sad. He set the new 250 lap record at Buttonwillow just hours before his injury.

I only met him for the first time that morning at Buttonwillow when his father sat down at my table at breakfast just to chat since I was going to be in the same race as his son. He was so proud and Kenny was so happy to be there. He definitely left a powerful mark on the roadracing community. Truly heartbreaking. Godspeed, Kenny

Was he on his 250 or 125 when he crashed? His father mentioned a tankslapper prior to him being thrown off of the bike.

Ah, shoot. GaryJ went over a cliff after what he himself described as a tankslapper on his 250. No single piece of equipment guarantees any level of safety, but do any of the 250 crowd on track run dampers, or would it affect the handling feel to the extent that they aren't worth it?

I can't think of anybody riding a 250 with a damper on the track. I think I read somewhere that maybe @Rexbo tried it? They are generally considered useless on a 250 as a tank slapper is highly uncommon.

I ran one for a minute, didn't do much. I've had a bad tankslapper once, and it tends to happen in low-grip places like the rumble strips, in which case it means trouble anyway, and the damper wouldn't do much.

Condolences to the family, there will be an empty spot in their hearts forever.

There is two ways to look at this;

be sad that is passed at such a young age, or

be happy he got to do all he did in such a short period of time. More than many do in a lifetime.
