Hey from Alaska!

Well, my name is justin, im new to bike riding, but i love it to death. i have had my bike for 2 days now, and have already put 100 miles on it. its that one thing you feel free and happy with when everything else just isn't going well... ya know? i had wanted a bike for this reason for years, and when i got my ninja, i was right on the feeling it gives you. i live up in Alaska, and no, i don't have a pet Polar Bear... just saying whats up and that I'm glad that a place like this exists

Glad to have your aboard bro...I'm confidant in saying that we all feel the same about biking, that's what makes us special
Enjoy riding it while you can (how many days in a year can your ride a bike in Alaska I wonder )

To hell with them! (with all due respect of course), much respect to you for rebelliously sticking to your wishes though.

Welcome!!

I know what you mean about the feeling, I just wrote a ride report about that. Awesome riding in Alaska, not to worry about winter, just learn to change your tires and put on some Kanadian Kutters if spikes are allowed, otherwise try knobbies, many people do that in the north of where I live.

You have to get a pic of your bike with the northern lights in the background - I'm so jealous!!

How hard is it to find gear and the bike course?

Working on the picture, (although a northern lights one will be hard to do in anchorage...) Gear and course are not hard to come by, there are shops and what is not in the shops, is on the internet

Really?? Silly me. I saw them in the NWT so I just assumed... Oops, learn something new every day..

I love riding in the cold so one thing you should look for are the different things available for defogging your shield. Some of the snowmobile sprays work well.

And heated grips!! My gear is nice and toasty even at -11c but my fingers need to work so hot packs of heated grips.

And bear spray? We rarely get any here, just moose. There's a video floating about of a dude that takes his ninja from the florida keyes to Anchorage. Maybe someone here will post the link - I can't seem to find it.

Got any safely frozen lakes close by to ice race on? Global warming has mucked up ours, some of the good spots didn't even freeze this year. I have yet to try it.

Had to go to Seward 2 days ago for a family emergency, and got her up to 100mph and just cruised at that speed for a little bit, because the roads are long and nice wont go any faster, but that sure is different than 100mph in a car, that's for sure.
