Smartphone gloves/stylus?

So I recently McGyvered a very cool iPhone mount for my bike. I'd like to be able to control it.

I've seen conductive gloves and even conductive finger cots (i.e. "condoms") but they don't look very durable.

I believe the only options are:

- Take your gloves off
- Hack something with conductive glove fingertips
- Carry a stylus with you

None of these seems ideal. I'm thinking of maybe getting a stylus and tucking it into the gauntlet on my gloves.

Has anyone come up with a good solution for this? How do you deal with your smartphone when wearing motorcycle gloves?

Were you looking at the motorcycle specific gloves with the conductive material, like these?

I've also seen styli that have a string with a plug that goes into the audio port on the phone... Which may work since you're using a BT setup. (not suggesting going through Alibaba just the ones I've seen have been at like casino gift shops in buckets.)

Unfortunately, my solution if I need into the phone itself is pull over and stop.

All you have to do is get some silver thread and stitch any shape on the finger tips you use. An star shape is recommended to get most surface. Just google silver thread, its not very expensive and beats the hell out of having to buy new gloves.

Okay, this works.

Just stick a stylus into the gauntlet.

Well, duh. I found out by accident that my gloves actually work to control my iPhone. Thumb only, though… there's fabric on the fingertips that prevents them from functioning.

Coolness.

These are the Street & Steel Live Wire Gloves I currently use... they were on closeout @ CycleGear:

http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/B...3256_59409_199

You can use the thumb, index and/or middle finger(s).

Works great with any touchscreen!

Yeah, most of the gloves I've tried work with touch screens, the issue is being accurate with them hahaha.

I prefer full gauntlets. No matter… I've found the answer and it works.

I have a similar setup and my Joe Rocket GPX gauntlet gloves work fine with my iPhone. Now I can text and ride like everybody else on the road...

Read about a neat product in motorcycle consumer news tonight, just on this topic. Check out: www.anyglove.com

A liquid that you put a few drops on the outside of a glove, and allows it to work on smartphones. The review was pretty positive, and it evidently survives several washings.

Looks like it's available on Amazon. Who's going to be the first guinea pig?

ORDERED. Way to cost me $20 there, ALEX.

I'm totally psyched. Just got my Interphone mount for my iPhone, and tested it out today. Awesome except for the predictable glove problem. Ordered the Anyglove stuff one-day shipping, so I could use it on a 800mi trip next week. I'll report back.

Good call @Alex I was putting serious thought into cutting the frontside of my right index fingertip. This would be a much better idea

Did you ever use the stylus or did you find the thumb trick before you had a chance? I've now got my phone mounted where my left hand can operate it but between the case and the Zag screen protector, its hard to get it to sense my finger. Wondering if the stylus actually worked?

The stylus does work but it's not terribly convenient. For basic operations I'm just using my thumb and it's working okay. If i need to do something complex like text, I just take my gloves off.

Also interested in the results of the Anyglove experiment.

GEEZ, impatient much, eh?!

Sadly, not good results to report. HOWEVER, the problem appears to be the very thick (waterproof) protective screen on the iphone mount. When I'm holding my phone, the gloves work well now, which is pretty cool. But I cannot really work the phone through the mount, with the gloves on, which was the hope.

What this DOES mean, though, is that the product works. So I'm still happy to have it, as whenever I'm not traveling with the phone mounted, I can pull over, pull it out of my pocket, and actually work it without pulling off my gloves. Still a big improvement. Also, it will work on my wife's and my winter gloves, just for being out and about, and there's plenty in the bottle for several applications.

So: mixed reviews. Hope that helps!

Or you could do what I do... lick the tip of the gloved finger. Spit (moisture) makes the suede on my gloves just conductive enough.

Given where I put my fingers, I'm not sure I'd want to do that....
