Favorite dog?

I'm not biased towards dogs and cats. We have three cats and they are all great. I really do like cats, but there is something about a dog that is great as well.

I have a few favorite dogs.
1. Basset Hound
2. Pug
3. Lab
4. Golden Retriever
5. Shar Pei

What is your top 5? Honestly I would prefer a basset. Those things cannot outrun me, they are pretty smart, and are cute as all get out.

Just have to wait until one of us stays at home. I'm not going to leave dogs outside in Texas heat. I wouldn't want to be left out if I were a dog. One of these days.

I dunno about top 5, but my favorite out of the ones I've owned is the German Sheppard. Very smart, very obedient and very badass dog. If you train it right that dog will be good with children and won't take any crap from strangers unless you instruct it to.

My brother's got a husky at the moment, and while it's a lot easier to live with, that dog is far too smart and far too stubborn for novice owners. It's actually a lot like a big cat, in the sense that it's very independent, doesn't bark, is worthless as a guard dog, and is constantly using it's charms to swindle you out of food and attention. Lousy, lovable dog.....

+1 on a properly trained German Shepherd. When I was younger we had 2. One of them was pretty much the best pet I could possibly imagine -- very smart, obedient, great with people and pets, and fun .

The only problem was that he had some allergy problems, which meant he shed a lot. Additionally, a lot of pure-bred shepherds have hip problems later in life, which can be really hard to deal with as an animal lover. Of course you have to have some space and devote some time to exercising them and avoiding boredom, but it's well worth it if you can IMO.

Sounds like I need to vote for 3.5. Our dog is a 50/50 mix of two purebreds, a lab & a golden. Best dog I've ever owned. Smart, lovable, energetic yet peaceful.

Ya my sheppard had hip problems in his later years before dying suddenly on our lawn. We still don't know what killed him. We bought him from a breeder and he was pretty pure bred, but I'd say that a slightly less "pure" German Sheppard would probably have less health issues. Genetic diversity and all that.

My favorite dog is simply one that stays out of my way while riding by.

I am very fond of my German Shepard too (pound rescue).

Our puppy is a border collie/german shepherd mix. Loves to do her own thing and very energetic. She listens to commands pretty well and we love her. Although I told my wife if we get another dog after our current one, it will need to be lame/and or half dead

The dogs I've had & loved in no real order:
  • Jack Russell Terrier
  • German Shepard
  • Border Collie
  • Labrador Retriever

Border collies are way too smart for their own good. Ours learned how to get out of her kennel (she was kennel trained and it was big, practically our whole climate controlled garage), open our garage door and let herself outside.

She never ran away though, just went back inside and closed the door by jumping up and hitting the garage door opener switch. Eventually we had to build a wall and doggy door to our gated back yard so she didn't get bored in the 3-4 hours a day she was alone, since I work mornings and my wife works afternoons. She just wasn't happy unless she could go outside, lol. Her new "kennel" consisted of our laundry room, kitchen and backyard. Her goal in life was to play frisbee I think. Because she wouldn't sleep unless you played with her for at least an hour, she would pout and follow you all day with the thing in her mouth until you played. Playing with a ball didn't do, she only wanted the frisbee. lol. Amazing dog. We wanted another border collie after she passed. But we couldn't, she was such a special dog to us.

Siberian Husky! I have an 11yr old Lap dog Husky all 32kg, They have the best temperment, People mistake them for Alaskan Malamut alot, He loves being with company all the time not agressive at all, When he gives you cuddles he doesnt stink, smells like a teddy bear. Talks to you, Is totally a member of the family, And a good looking Dog too, Pulls Chicks everywhere you go. People think that they are not suited to the Australian heat but the coat insulates them well in all climates, Hmmm now to find a photo!

I think the head strong gives him personallity, But you have to like any dog show them that your the alpha, I raise my voice when he steps out of line, he submits straight away, Iv'e had him up on stage performing tricks etc, Any dog is how you raise em, trick is good training. Earn respect by rewards like walks and taking them to socialise with other dogs at open off lead parks, they respect you for that and give you loyalty in return. the only problem we have is the MRS fed him while we were at the table when he grew up, so he is bad when there is food around, and they lose there coat twice a year, can get messy round the house, but the love they give is irriplacable.

Husky / husky mix ftw. My brothers room mate has one, and my cousin has one as well. They are very protective, friendly, playful, athletic, obediant, good looking, trainable and just all around great dogs. I can't wait to get one some day.

All I have is my iPhone... The wife broke both our computers lol. But the husky sounds alot like a German shepherd realy guess it's mainly all in the owner and how any animal is raised. I'm a huge animal guy so I have all kinds of pets but I think our next is either a few cats or a husky

They are very much a strong pack dog so they become a member of the family, Mine is 11 so I may not have much more time with him, Finding it hard to even think about, I used to work away doing fly in fly out work in the oil fields, I used to miss him the most.

My dad has one of these. Insane little pup haha. Definitely loves to play. She's still young, but that breed is making it up my favorites list pretty quickly. I love the short hair. Years with a German Sheppard and a Husky have turned me into a paranoid, lint brush using crackhead

My favorite is a basenji. Quite a rare breed that a lot of people don't know about since they aren't super popular.
