Better. Slowly, better.

So on a comfort level scale of 1 to 10, 10 being super-pro-max-comfort-guy and 1 being scared s-less, I have slowly but surely moved from 1 to about a 1.7 while riding the Ninjette.

I even rode a short distance in the rain one day! It is wet and cold here a lot now, so all my trips have been ridiculously short (I don't have 100 miles on the bike yet ) It is a good excuse to not get in over my head on some big long highway trip, which is more than fine with me at this point.

I feel good about taking it easy and just slowly getting used to using the brakes, clutch, shifter and handle bars relatively correctly. Not expertly, mind you.

Great to hear that your confidence is growing! No matter how big or small the increase, it can help make you a safer rider There's nothing wrong with taking slow, you're riding your own ride and not letting anyone else dictate to you how you should do it which is a huge plus in my book. Keep up the good work and any remaining severe fears should soon vanish just keep your eyes up and moving! We all know the risks (or at least I'd like to hope so, some people I question lol...) of our two wheeled hobbies!

Nice job buddy! Keep it up. I did it the same way as you. I've been riding slowly but surely. I feel most comfortable doing short trips in areas where it's 35 mph and under. I've been increasing my skills and confidence over the past couple of months. It may be slower than the majority of people, but I'm happy at this pace. I ride for myself after all

Taking it slow is the way to go....for now at least. Like you I took it really cautious, but you'll become accustomed once you get experience. For me even after 4,100 miles I'm still learning. "You have many years to go and there is no reason to be on the fast lane." a fellow wise man said to me.

I'm a returning rider after 20 years. I had a 650 Honda back then and never bothered to get any kind of instruction so I had a lot of bad habits... I was very lucky. I bought my baby Ninja in October and have logged about 1000 miles so far. I spend the first two weeks just riding from stop sign to stop sign around my development. Every time I got on the bike I had to psych myself up for it. Then I took the MSF course.. it was like "finding religion"! I still look at myself as a beginner, but I'm amazed at how confident I am now and how much better of a rider I've become (I never forget my limits though and don't ride beyond my ability). Now I just gear up and go! You just have to seek the knowledge (msf course, this great website, other experienced riders) and put in the riding time. Your riding will get better and better and so will your confidence. Eyes up and ride safe!

How does one determine if s/he is at 8 or 9, or even 10?

Sounds like fun, my friend. If we ever get any dry pavement maybe I can actually start to improve again!
