Hello from NY - Now with pics! and questions
Been browsing this forum for a bit and figured I would drop in and say "Hi". Lots of good info and seems to be a good group here.
I don't have my ninja yet. I spoke with my dealer today and was told they received their papers and "it should be here in a few days". This is my second year of riding and ...um... ahem this will be my fourth bike. Technically my girl and I are buying it together. Been around bikes all my life and now in a place where I can afford the toys I have always wanted. I had a Harley sportster and a Honda goldwing. Now I have a Harley Street Bob and will also have a black 09' 250R ninja. I have done alot of research and I am convinced these are the last two bikes I will own...I swear. Edit 6-11-2009: Well, I almost have 50 miles on my new 250 and I have to say it is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! I cannot get over how this bike handles. I know I should be breaking in the tires better but just going around the development here there are three 15mph post turns and well...I couldnt help myself. Took them between 30 and 35 mph and if my my bike could I bet it would have yawned through those turns. I have been riding the bike per manual instructions..but after a few searches I will be riding it normally today after work. I will be buying the replacement filter and oil to get ready for when I am done riding today. Anyway on with the pics and then a question or two. And now both bikes: My question is, has anyone had any experience taking their seat to an auto uphoslty place? Looking for an estimate and curious if it is really worth the cost? Also, is there quick adjustable lowering links that would drop the back end an inch or two BUT still have the option to go back to stock height without changing hardware again? Welcome! A Goldwing to a 250 is quite the change - what prompted it?

As it turns out the cost to maintain the Goldwing was a bit more than I could do along with the sportster I had. So I decided to put it up on craigslist. If someone was willing to buy it for the price I bought it, then I was willing to give it up - focus on paying off the sporty and then find something that was in between what I was looking for. Shortly after I sold the Goldwing, Harley had a trade in deal for sporties. Full MSRP to trade in for a big twin. So 5000 miles later on my new Street Bob, I am wearing the footpegs off my bike and have a few scrapes on my muffler. This is with me hanging off the side of the bike just so I can get good speed out of a turn. I have always wanted a sport bike. The street bob will be good for the long haul and I dont want to give it up for anything. After a bit of research, the 250 was looking like it would fit the bill for the way I ride and for my girl to learn on. Don't get me wrong, I ride with a level head. There is a time and place for everything. I know some of the backroads around here very well and thats the only place I deem good for a bit of aggressive riding. Lots of posted 15- 25 mph turns is where I get my kicks. Sure I may have seen tripple digits a few times but it is no more exciting to me than doing 45mph. Dropping my dyna in a 25mph posted at 50-55 is a blast. Riding the pegs at that speed is pushing the limits with that bike though. There is a lot of detail here in all of this that I am leaving out...but I kinda want to keep it short... for now. |

Ah - we missed your questions. Check out the Lowering entry in the wiki, it will go through what's needed to lower the front, rear, or both, and you can determine how easy it will be to go back to stock height. If you're just dropping the rear an inch and plan to raise it back up, it's not a terribly complicated job.
I don't know if anyone here has taken the seat to an upholstering place, but it's certainly very doable. Some people get Corbins to replace the seat entirely, but replaing some foam and a new cover is certainly another options. Theres a woman on this site that also sells replacement covers for our seats in a number of different designs (custom seat creations).
