Howdy from Utah!

I picked up a nice 2007 Ninja about a month ago, and looking forward to a great season on the bike.

I am sure that I will use the forums here a lot as I go through the initial learnings of how to maintain my Ninjette.

Love the ride, it is much better than the wife's 150cc scooter, although it was a great scoot to learn on last year.

Thanks!

Thank you for the nice welcome to the site.

Oldguy... My gear includes a full face helmet, mesh and leather jackets (depending on the temperature), leather gloves, and boots. Keeping an eye on eBay for a good deal on some armored pants.

As for the MSF course, I am considering it as an option. Since getting the Ninja I have been doing about an hour plus each week in parking lot practice. Working on knowing my friction zone, slow maneuvers (turns), shifting, braking, stop and go turning (intersection right and left turns from a stop). The people that live around there probably think I am nuts when they see me weaving through the lines doing 180's every two lines, since the lot is probably 100 stalls long.

Also, I have also read through David Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well", and will again soon. I am sure I will get a better perspective on the lessons in the book when I read it again.

As for a name for my bike, it is just "Ninja" right now. (but when you say "Ninja" you have to strike a ninja pose and say it with an accent)

Welcome Chuck. When you feel comfortable enough riding, you will love riding the 250 up and down Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.

After you take the MSF class

Jeff

It will be a while before I hit either Big or Little Cottonwood canyons. I am just looking forward to Spring, if it should ever decide to come this year. Snowing again tonight

Do you have any other suggestions for good rides for a new rider?

Chuck, when I started, I just found a quiet set of streets to ride and planned on going during what I felt were quiet hours.

Be careful if you ride on Sundays. During the times when meetings are starting or ending there is tons of traffic going to and from the ward houses. Folks are in a hurry and inattentive either because they are running late to get to church or rushing to get back home.

What area of the Valley do you reside?

I live in Herriman, the Southwest corner of the valley. Right now I commute to Draper (when the weather is nice), ride some of the streets around town, and zip up and back on Rose Canyon Road.

If I feel adventurous, I will zip north or south on Redwood Road.

Have you guys been out to the track to watch the amateurs? I randomly met the guy who runs it up in Ogden and he was very fond of my 250. He said he was actually thinking about starting a 250 league and asked my interest. Anyway I went out there last year and it was pretty fun, that track is really nice.

Here is the site for the armatures at Miller.

http://www.trackstar1.com/
And that is the shop they run, they are really cool, helped me order some stuff without paying for shipping when I was kinda broke. Really nice guys.

If anyone wants to meet up there I would be in, I had fun going by myself before but it would be much more enjoyable with more people.

Here are the dates:
MoM 1 (4/24-25) EAST
MoM 2 (5/22-23) Combined with WERA PERIMETER?
MoM 3 (6/19-20) Combined with USGPRU EAST
MoM 4 (7/24-25) EAST
MoM 5 (8/14-15) WEST
MoM 6 (9/4-5) WEST

I'm not sure I can make the first one as I am moving back on campus around those dates but after that I imagine I could.

I'm a member of USBA and am thinking of doing their ART class on May 2nd. Of course, my bike is currently in about 10 pieces so I will not be riding till the end of this month.

Meeting up sounds like fun. Let's all keep in touch. I'm also planning on riding up for the WSBK race on Memorial Day weekend.

The other Utah riders I have had the pleasure to meet (and represent Utah County) are Blue Monkey, Nevrfastenuf, and tjkamper.

I also work in Draper. (12300 and I-15)

The intersections on Redwood freak me out.

I work around there as well. If you happen to see another silver Ninja around your work, it's probably me. Give me a wave.
