tail of the dragon planning

In the planning stages of a trip down to tail of the dragon. planning on driving down to dc towing the bike, then riding blue ridge to the dragon and all around that TN/GA area. Not sure if i'm camping yet. planning for may since i have supercamp in april. i do like to be warm so maybe late may. gauging interest if anyone from the northeast is interested or if ya'll down in the south is interested. it would be my second time there. maybe make it a big ninja meetup? that way i can bring less spare parts

i would be spending 5 or so days down there.

I'll be there. I only live about an hour away so give me a little bit of a notice and I can probably make it over there. Hopefully a few riders can make it!

Camp for super heros? Have you picked out a cool name yet? Tom seems more like a sidekick to me.

I wish I could ride the dragon in Apr. or May.

i'm not trying to slay it like a lot of riders, i'm almost 800 miles away from home. too far to wreck. its really a 2nd gear road and you work on riding the perfect line. i don't even think i ever broke 25/30mph on the road. i'm actually more afraid of someone crashing into me.

Keep us updated on the date and I may can come up with a group of mainly 250s. Our NorthGARiders group is made up of 3--300's, a couple of 650's, and around 3 or 4--250's. Would be kinda cool to make it a Ninjette event for at least one day...

PS...we arent knee draggers or show offs...we enjoy the ride and fellowship.

Its pretty far away but if you set something about a month or so before, I think many could (if they really want to) make the trip. It would be pretty cool to see a buch of Ninjettes "ripping up" the dragon at 25-30 MPH.

I may be interested if it's after the middle of May. I need to make some decisions before hand though. Like if I am going to keep my KLX250 or sell it and get a different bike. If I keep the 250 I will get a trailer and haul the bike to the dragon. And then I will be able to sleep in my car while I'm there. Seems like the cheapest route. I'll follow this thread when it gets closer to time.

update

so here's what i'm thinking. i'm planning on taking a week off work, 19-23rd.

i would drive down from nyc the 17th, stay with a guy on my advrider forum that night and begin the blue ridge parkway at the beginning in waynesboro,VA on the 18th. taking 2/3 days to get there, i would end up at the dragon on the 20th. i would spend until the 23rd down in the tenn/NC/GA area and then begin the brp back up north during the afternoon of the 23rd or before noon on the 24th, sat. this all depends on if i can take that week off. it may be the week before or after but monday is madness because the 26th is memorial day. plus it will be getting a bit warm to camp.

if there is interest in a ninjette along those days (thrus&friday? maybe thurs-sat?) then post up here as i need some idea so i know how to organize.

when i'm down in the dragon area, i'm planing on staying here
http://www.thesimplelifecampground.c...erPenCabin.asp

it works out better if there are more people as then the cabins only cost 15-25 per person which isn't bad for a bed. especially when camping is at least 14 bucks everywhere i've looked.

apart from the dragon, i plan on seeing http://www.sixgap.com/ as well as the cherohala. would prob spend a day or two in the smokey mountain as well as other dicking around

other points:
http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com/
i plan on hiking a bit depending on the weather. if your into that, awesome.

i only plan on going to the dragon on weekdays as all the locals say is it a circus on weekends with show-off and whatnot. not really feeling that risky.

comment appropriately.

I'll be there but I doubt I'll be camping. I'll just ride home every night. Also Wheels Through Time is a must see. Very cool place and you are bound to meet some old timer who loves to tell his story. <-- usually very cool stories.

Cades Cove is great if you are into nature or like taking pictures. There's also some good hiking there. Like Abrams Falls.

Another good spot locals tend to visit is Bald River Falls. Once again scenic and there are some hiking trails.

If you are more into gambling and drinking go to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

PJ has a great store and so does Wheelers has parts as well. Both are really great guys. There are factory dealerships nearby in Knoxville. I'm not sure about dealerships in North Carolina.

Blue Ridge is also a great place to stay. I honestly don't know the prices but I've stayed a few times and it was terrific. They cook breakfast and dinner if you forget to pack your meals.

When you are on the actual Dragon be aware of the local traffic laws and the pull offs if you feel pressured. The locals will probably be riding very quickly. Don't try to enforce the laws just keep riding your pace and move to the pull offs when you feel like it is safe to do so. Everyone is up there to have a good time.

But I am looking for a nice cruise through there, been wanting to take my bike for a little long term trip and going to the Dragon sounds like fun.

I think I'll tag along with Tony and Xavier (North GA riders) up there. Don't have the Ninja anymore but the FZ6R loves road trips.
