i'd buy that for that price if it had 0 miles.

2300 miles? maybe 4k.

but with puppy foam grips? at least 4500!!!

they are made out of puppies.

lol

I think I'm going for it. He was firm on $5k for a while and I'm sick of taking the bus. Plus the used 300 market is pretty dry around here.

Idk, the price seems fair to me considering that most of the people who are in the market for a used 300 are new riders who don't know what it's worth and would probably be willing to pay over 5k for it w/2300 miles. Hell I'd expect to be able to get 4500-5000 without any issue for my 300 and it's over 5k miles with virtually no mods.

So after being in contact with the seller, it looks like I will be getting it on Saturday. It's currently winterized and stored, so he has to put it back into running condition.

Anything I should look out for? Beyond checking chain health/tension, tires, and bodywork, I really don't know how to make sure it's in good shape.

Also, he's riding it in from a town that's about 60 miles away, all highway, so I'm sure he'll be revving the crap out of it. It's got 2300 miles on it.

What's the break-in period where you shouldn't rev it too high?

Generally 500 to 1000 miles. Should be fine at 2000+.

Some things to check (not a complete list):

1. The brakes. Make sure they work smoothly. No lurching or pulsating. You can us a mic on the rotor if you want. Min thickness is 4.5mm on the 250; I'd assume the 300 is the same. Also look at how much life is left on the pads. At 2300 miles, there should be plenty. Given the mileage, warpage seems unlikely unless it's been abused really hard, but a bent rotor due to something hitting it is possible, especially if it's spent time sitting in a garage somewhere. The front rotor is one of the most expensive components on this bike.

2. Is the chain tension proper? Not a huge deal if it isn't - it's designed to be adjusted.

3. Are the handlebars bent? Do the bar end weights have scuffs on them. This is an indication that the bike has been down, and that you should check carefully for any other damage. Check to make sure that your thumbs don't touch the fuel tank when the bars are at the full travel.

4. Obvious stuff like whether the clutch slips, gears don't shift right, etc.

5. Look at the coolant reservoir. Is the level correct? If it's empty, that suggests a leak, which suggests some sort of damage, given the age and mileage. If it's way over full, ask why.

Lol!

I think I will be. I test-rode one about a month ago and wasn't too wowed, but truth be told the guy who let me ride it said that he had just put new tires on that day and that they might be a little slick (he works at the dealership), and so I didn't ride it too hard or corner too fast.

I like the 2014 SE color pattern, but I think I like the 2013 more.

I'm hoping to be wowed! I'm going to test ride it before buying this Saturday, and I'll put it through its paces first.

If I do get it, I'm thinking SS brake lines and some better pads for sure.

When I found out, I started looking at my new/old Shadow and decided I didn't like the forward controls. Put it up on Craigslist and sold it for a little more than I paid, which wasn't much to begin with (I was expecting insurance to screw me over).

Now I have all this money and back to square one.

But still, thank you Progressive!!!!

I love to say it

told you so like 6 times, you were gonna make out with your bike being stolen.

as far as the new 300.

The guys asking price of $4500 seems ok but that is his asking price with out you seeing the bike. Look it over, point out every little thing you can and use anything to talk the price down.

You might be hard pressed to find much to talk the price down on a 2013 with 2k miles on it but who knows.

I had to dig a little, and I finally found it:

You called it, man. I am happy to eat crow this time. I was so sure I'd be getting 2k max from the insurance company.

And yes, hello 300!

You were totally right.

I used this break-in procedure and I am a believer. The factory recommended break-in from Kawi is a cruel joke.... you can't ride the bike that slow.
