Delayed Tach
Tried to search but couldn't find anything.
When I start the bike up the tach stays at 0 for a few seconds, sometimes 20-30 seconds before it starts to move. Seems to do this more when it's cold then when it is warmed up. Since it only does this at startup I am not sure if this is an electrical issue or something else. Any ideas? |

It sounds like a faulty electrical connection or broken wire between CDI and tachometer.
Welcome !!!

Welcome!
Alot of the time, a whacky tach is a sign of something going on in the battery area. Ensure the connectors to the battery are clean and tight. While you're there, get out a meter and test your battery as you start the bike.

Thanks guys. Will be checking the wiring. Battery is good and connections there are good.
Spent the past week going through the carbs & cleaning. Valves are next on the list. For what I picked the bike up for I expected a few things like this. This global warming though is killing me. 55 out yesterday and snow this morning. |

It's simple, you have a faulty connection somewhere, check them all including the battery, and your grounds as well.
If you still have the problem, sell me your bike for $50.00 USD and that will fix your problem for sure.

Sticky tach. Mine does it. Give it a tap or a flick with finger & thumb, usually wakes it up

have this figured out. Problem is mechanical with the needle, it is sticking. It only does this after sitting for a bit. once it moves it doesn't occur until it sits for a while again. Going to tear it apart and see about cleaning it out.
Had a similar problem with an old Porsche I restored and that fixed it. |

For others with the same issue....
Took the cluster apart and the tach out. sprayed with some lithium grease (little it goes a long way). Put it back together and the tach moves every time. Tach should bounce when trying to start so if yours doesn't do this, took about 20 minutes start to finish, 30 if the front fairing is still on. |
