New 250 for CVMA

Hi everyone! This is also my intro thread, I just last month bought a 09 250 track bike. I rode it for the first time on a Saturday and raced it in our 250 class (ASMA in southern NM) on Sunday and took a 2nd and a 3rd! Obviously I am sold-had WAY to much fun. Next up I am going to head to chuck in November. The bike came with the following:

Hotbodies bodywork
Woodcraft clip ons/rearsets
steel brake line
trailtec vapor tac
leo full exhuast
frame sliders
drilled for safety wire.

I picked up a GSXR 600 rear shock and my buddy is selling me his forks with the Racetech Gold Valve Emulators

So my two questions are: What are the other must haves for the ninjettes? Two, for the CVMA guys any recommendations, tips or tricks? I know these are general noobie questions but thought i'd throw it out there as i introduce myself. I have been racing 600s but I'm not sure i can continue to afford to buy tyres for my R6 every other weekend.

Thanks!

Lee

Pirelli SC-1s just mounted, I'm very happy with them so far.

Awesome!

Welcome to the class! Come pit with us. 80% of the 250 racers all pit together. Guy ^^^^ is too good for us so he pits on his own. =P

Say that now...and he dominates.

As for pitting with the TooFiddy crew...I'm torn because I would love to but I am part of a small race team called BigHeadz Racing. So whenever I have the chance I do hang out at Camp Too Fiddy. Just ask Max and Cheeks about our midnight quesadilla adventures.

Didnt you race a D675? I remember seeing you on triumph675.net

Anyway a midnight quesadilla party? Is that like a grilled cheese or blue waffle?

YES!!! I actually use to race a D675 until I had my really bad crash and it got destroyed. I knew I recognized that username somewhere!!!

Good to see you on here too!!! As for your question...you'll just have to find

Sweet! I forgot about your crash, glad you see you are still at it. I just sold my two Daytonas (street/track) I never could get the front end to work right. I got a R6 and shaved 8 seconds off my time in a season.

As far as late night shennanigans goes, to quote the great alex s. "if it fits, i splits"

Damn. Sorry to hear! The D675 probably just needed different valving and/or shim stack to work right for you. The OEM D675 forks are awesome.

But good to see you on here too now and becoming a CAR (Cheap Ass Racer).

CAR is what I need to be. Bought tyres again for the r6 this weekend

Couple more questions for you guys-What gearing are yall running at CVR? I will not be able to make the practice on Friday.

I had planned on just coming and racing anyway but I've found it takes a few sessions to get used to the 250 VS a 600. Waist of time? I dont want to be a speed bump out there but it would be my last chance to race until after the new year

If it's your first time riding the 250 on the track than yeah I highly recommend you do a trackday but then again you have the practice race sessions on late Friday, Sat & Sun mornings.

LOL, I'm trying to be a CAR, but I had to buy a rear tire again this past weekend because my experimentation turned out really bad. I may need to buy another tire on race weekend too.

I know that a majority of all the 250 racers are on stock gearing. However I am running stock front and +2 rear. I may go back to stock gearing to see how much it affects my shift points.

I say **** and just race. If you come on Friday, you might still be able to do the Friday evening race practice. You'll also have on Saturday Practice 1, Practice 2, and qualifying--and then your 2 races. Sunday you will have Practice 1 and Practice 2 and then your races. The 250 races for this weekend are schedule nice for us. We start and finish somewhat early by Sunday

YMMV, but most of the time I am up to speed by the 2nd session.

jon, you aren't up to speed by session 2 because you skip session 1 and you pit in after 3 laps.

With the time shift I highly doubt that there will be a Friday evening racers practice.

Dustin posted on Facebook that rider's meeting will be at 7:30am and the track goes hot at 8am. NRS mock race at 4pm and race practice immediately after.

You may want a bit more 250 practice than that before you come and spend money on races but i wouldn't worry about being a speed bump. There's always fun to be had and racers aren't often lapped.

If timing makes you feel any better the November race round is the last weekend to race before the new year anyway - so we'll all be waiting until January after this weekend.

As it turns out I ended up having to take call this weekend so scratch that plan. I will get some practice in on the 250 and join you guys in January. Thanks for the info and the welcome. Also I know its far from SoCal but I'll get going to this in December if anyone is interested

http://asmaracing.com/index.html

For those who dont feel like clicking the link here's the highlights:

*Top AMA Pro Superbike racer Danny Eslick will be a guest instructor for the
weekend.

*Evan Steel will be doing a suspension seminar (Evan Steel worked with the EBR team this season and helped make drastic improvements to that bike and team)

*Josh Kauffman of Speedcell will be doing an electronics seminar

Trackday all day Saturday until 4pm and Sunday until 2pm.

2 Hour Endurance race from 2-4pm

All this and the entire weekend of riding (2 TDs) for 135$!!! The weather might be a little cold (it's hit or miss in NM in December) but for me I'll be stoked just to meet Eslick. I hope some of yall will come out and support the club

So I am (finally) getting out there this month! I am waiting for Dustin to call me to confrim my spot on the TD but otherwise I am all set. Racng the 250 race and the LW shootout on Saturday. Where is this 250 camp spot? I am coming with my buddy Rob Bagnato who's been out there before on his 250. I hope I dont get mowed down-I have not been on a bike since early November

Good stuff!

We always pit by the restroom (corner closest to restroom). You'll see a gang of Ninja 250s. Can't miss us.

Your other race should be Ultra Lightweight Shootout, not the Lightweight Shootout. Otherwise you're pretty much bringing a knife to a gun fight racing against SV650s

Your other race should be Ultra Lightweight Shootout, not the Lightweight Shootout. Otherwise you're pretty much bringing a knife to a gun fight racing against SV650s
Aww crap, think they will let me change it Friday once i get out there? Do most of yall ride the TD as well? Glad to hear the 250 area is close to the pisser, a experienced racer once told me the last few drops always end up in your leathers anyway

PS how do you mark a post as "helpful"

About half of the racers you will find doing the track day, the other half show up on Saturday morning to whip some butt.
