He's got an rx-7. First gen if I remember correctly. His buddy has an RX-8 though. Check out the 2 Days of Dragon thread and you'll see it.

Mom had to have her transmission serviced. First person she calls? Me!!! Progress...

Progress will be when Don calls you to fix his car!

... then you can tell him, "No, take it to the dealer!"

He calls me all the time asking about his Range Rover. I tell him he's more than welcome to bring it in. He always just wants me to diagnose it for him though. Most of the work is in diagnosing anyways. I tell him my fee starts at $25 an hour for diagnosing. Which is a whole lot cheaper than anyone else I know around here. He usually takes it to "his" mechanic though. Oddly enough that Rover still has a bad miss in it...

The dealer tried to tell here there was metal in her transmission pan and she needed to have it replaced. Of course there is metal in the transmission pan. They do that...

Bless her heart, she'd believe anything. You know how the dealers are too. She'd be spending 5k on that car before long. Don wouldn't stop her either. Luckily she has kids that care.

Corey Beth, $25.00 for diagnostics! You can`t be serious. I get $62.00 an hour working on bicycles. Around here you would be getting $65.00 an hour--no questions asked. You are selling yourself short. Charge $65.00 an hour, and if Don watches, the rate goes to $80. If he says anything, it goes to $100. Sounds fair enough to me.

That reminds me of the sign I've seen from time to time for mechanic charge rates. Something like:

basic repairs - $10
if you watch - $20
if you help - $40

...and so on.

Yeah figured as much because there was no RX-7 pictured anywhere. Oh well, what year?

Yeah, sorry to disappoint The RX-7 I have now is an '85 GSL. Underpowered, carbureted, and underrated. Fun little car. I had an '87 Turbo II for a long time that I finally traded for a Subaru last year, and an '88 SE that was totaled long, long ago. The rotary and I have a history.

I want to drive that car Jimi.

As for shop rates... I could easily make $80/hr because the cars I work on are European. I have all of the factory diagnostics equipment for Volkswagen brand and I'm about to purchase Mercedes and BMW equipment. One day I'll hve my own shop. I have a while though.

That can be arranged, Corey. As far as I know, it should be good with a fuel line and some fuel pressure. The first autocross is March 1st (your presence will be required) so I have to have it running and the carb tuned by then.

And so I'm not threadjacking - The rate for shops is just going to go up and up as less people buy new cars. Corey... you might have to learn how to work on electric cars one day since everyone will be driving them. Just kidding... 2157 is still a long ways off

CB, I hope you get your own shop. As I mentioned earlier, the best Corvette mechanic I knew was a little gal named Rose, who ran Corvettes Only. When she got done with a car, it was absolutely perfect. You then made an appointment for six months later. Since we moved to Maine, we had a hard time finding a good diesel person. We have a mint condition 1995 3/4Ton Suburban with a 6.5L Turbo Diesel. We finally got a good shop in town and Ken converted the rig to run on Biodiesel. The damn exhaust smells like French Fries. Runs really well and gets 18mpg. Having one`s own shop is nice. I really enjoy the Bicycle business and my customers.

I did some work on a Suburban just like yours Alex. It was a pretty nice truck. Smelly though. I personally do not like the smell of diesel. I have it in the trunk of my car from having to haul those Mercedes parts around.

I'm all up for some autocross, Jimi. I'm bringing the WRX. Montego blue...
