250 vs 300 on track
Has any one gone head to head on a 250 against a 300? I seemed to have no problem overtaking a 300 down the straight at Blackhawk Farms a couple of weeks ago. My bike 28.6 hp his piped and tuned (his claim). Thinking I was getting better drive onto the straight I would back off then catch up and pass.

it's all about getting good drive into the corner. they are indeed faster than a 250. maybe the one you were playing with had issues

There is a slight advantage to the 300 on corner exit but nothing that rider skill cannot overcome. I also feel the draft bubble the 300 creates is larger. On a large straight, a 300 should pull on the 250 but other factors still are in play. Rider weight, tuck bla bla bla...

That's what I did. I dropped from 170 to 155 lb in the last 7 months. Might stay at 155, but I think I can get to 150. It gets harder as I get older, though.

Check out some of the Super Bike Brasil Videos. They run the 300 and the 250 together. The leaders are always 300s.

I own a 2013 Interim model 250 that was sold here in Asia for the first few months of 2013
It is for all intents & purpose the 300 less the parts that increase the stroke 7.8mm or 5/16th inch & the slipper clutch along with the 250 having 28mm throttle bodies vs the 300's 32mm bodies I was expecting when the 300's came to see a huge diff but in reality they are quite close But this again is the 2013 FI 250 |

Maybe you're just a better rider than the 250 rider you chased down. Ever consider that?

Im an old guy, weight is hard to loose. I sit right at 180-185 and 6 feet tall so I'm not out of shape. if I drop any more I feel like crap. I keep removing weight on the bike every chance I get.

He was on the 300. And yes I am The thing is I would let him get the run down the straight, just to make sure it wasnt because I got a better drive off the corner, then accelerate and pass him.

First of all, taking my 300 on the track last February only deepened my love for that nimble little bike! It felt so much smoother in corners than my 250 ever did, even on BT-45 street tires. I didn't have to shift as frequently and didn't have a single bogging incident that used to occasionally plague me on the 250 (especially in unfamiliar corners). The 300 falls into corners just as easily as the 250 but has enough power in the lower-RPM range (around 5k) to pull through with no incident. I used to feel if I wasn't around 8k on the 250, there just wasn't the power I craved to pull me through the corner.

Stock for stock the 300 will pull away on the 250 off the line. However, a pumped up 250 is a different story. I remember running against a 300 of the line a while back, the guy on the 300 was a bit heavier than me. I was about 155 and the other guy must have been 170+, we were about dead even until about the end of the second gear. I was getting ahead little by little nothing fancy. But at the end of the day, I will always pick the 300 over the 250.Why? because it may not be by much, but the 300 is better in every way. I can't wait till Kawi comes out with the new 500R, now that is something to think about.
