"Put the 250r in back"
Here's a story I think many of you will appreciate. (For lack of confusion, I'm going to call people by their bikes instead of their names)
At my University, we just put together a riding club and were going on one of our first rides the other day. Normally, I only ride with my good friend 650r. I'd like to consider us both mature and respectable riders, so we were iffy riding with a bunch of people we didn't really know. The first guy, Suzuki GS500 is a cool guy but doesn't have much riding experience. The next guy is yellow GSXR 600 who comes off as a hotheaded 'know-it-all". We waited a while for the rest to show up just talking when we see red GSXR 600 riding with only a jacket (helmet on the bike), doing a wheelie followed by R1 riding without ANY gear. 650r and I looked at each other and said... "I have a bad feeling about this...". We ask R1 if he has a helmet at home and he does, so we ride to his place so he can get it. He puts on a jacket and helmet and as we are setting off, I point at red GSXR and tap my helmet.. he looked annoyed but he put his on anyways. Before the big ride started we ride to a gas station for gas (red gsxr pulling wheelies constantly on the way) when gsxr and r1 asked me "that's a 250r right?". I proudly say yep and they proceed to tell me "well, we'll keep you in the back so you don't slow us big bikes down". Annoyed, I tell them that I'll stay in second position (650r is leading because he knows roads) unless it becomes a problem. We take off and me and 650r take to the twisties with everyone else following us. As we get to the fun bits we take off at our normal speeds. I notice the others falling behind but don't bother slowing down for them to catch up. At the first stop sign, 650r and I pull over to wait for the others to catch up. Took maybe 30 seconds or so. We set back off and continue our ride. Next stop sign, 650r and I pull over again to wait. This time it was a good 2-3 minute wait (after maybe 15minutes of riding) for the others to show up. We take off again and 650r and I slow down considerably in order to stay with the group. We both figured we proved our point. red gsxr and R1 leave the group without a word. When we reach the end of our loop, yellow gsxr blames some fuel mapping switch but compliments my riding anyways. Moral of the story: It felt good to show these people that you don't need 600cc or 1000cc supersport race bikes to have fun and ride quick. The two guys on "beginner" bikes were also the quickest and easily had the most fun. These weren't small sharp turned roads either. They were long twisties with plenty of variance in slope and degree of turn. Yellow GSXR had a 250r for a while but sold it because he said it was too slow. Some of you might think we were dumb to ride ahead of the groups skill level like that and should just ride on our own. You'd probably be right. It is important to note that we didn't feel safe riding with them (except GS500, he's cool), so we tried to keep our distance. It was a one-off thing just to prove to them that engine size doesn't matter. These roads were also new to all of us except 650r and yellow GSXR600. tl;dr: 250r insulted, 250r beat pack of 600/1000cc'ers

Hehehe, I love stories like these. You know those two "squids" will never speak of this ride ever again. They will never admit to not being able to keep up with a small "slow" 250 in the twisties. I just love seeing egos like theirs get popped the way you did it.

Not at all, group dynamics sometimes call for a backmarker so the faster riders can go ahead. If everything is worked out ahead of time, it's all good.

kewl story bro! what's that saying - it's better to ride a small bike fast, rather than a large bike slow. i hate following behind slow big bikes babying it in the corners. too dangerous to follow them.
