today my 15t front spacley sprocket came. It went on in less than 10 min, didn't have a chance to try it yet. curious about how a 130/90/16 tire and a 15t sprocket will treat me, don't want to Clark Kent it to much. i think it will give me just what i need, to always be right before the powerband when cruising.

Busy days

I'll Start the day before yesterday:
I finally finished installing my BKMoto HID projectors - that drama is detailed here.

Yesterday, I scrubbed and oiled the chain

Today, I burned a nice layer of rubber off the tires at the track.

ZX6R: DID ERV3 chain and tire pressure.

250R: Swapped out my gauges from a donor bike due to a crack in the speedometer from low siding it last year and to eliminate the gear indicator that was installed from the PO. I put the LED lights and diode mod from my old gauges into the new one and they all work fine. The only downside is that the new gauge had about 600 more miles on the odometer than my old one.

Threw out the left hand side Shogun frame slider and put in an OEM engine mounting bolt because the Shogun one is way too long. The other Shogun bolt isn't that much longer than OEM and it wasn't in stock at Bike Bandit at the time I ordered my other junk.

Put on my new LH OEM fairing and installed the plastic rivets so no more floppy lower fairings.

Other than needing a cleaning from chain lube and rear tire fling, the bike will be put up for sale soon, I will be starting a thread early in the week and letting Ninjette users (or friends thereof) have first dibs on the bike before I put it on Craigslist.

Today we painted the fender part of the hugger

I think it came out decent - I wanted to get masking tape but I was overruled and we did our best w electrical tape lol

installed the million color LED kit that comes w remote / control box and 6 LED STRANDS - 2x6 2x12 2x18

So far we only installed the two longest and two shortest
I am thinking of cutting up the two left and splicing them so I can spread them out a bit.

Anyone have experience wiring the 3m tape led lights ?

Found a good spot to stash the control module

Installed black path rear lowering dog bones , lowered 1.5inchs (to the 4th from oem ride height hole)

I CRACKED THE STUPID TAIL FAIRING PULLIG IT OFF!!! The pins that lock into the grommets didn't come out together and now I need to buy a new tail piece !!!!

What should I do now!!! I used JBweld to repair the back side -good or bad call?

I will post photos of the lighting when it is dark out

Here is - 1 - installing bones 2 hug 3 control 4 finished hugger

Installed the head, ran into an interesting twist on the head bolt torque values discussed here:https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...2&postcount=20

Pulled the carbs out of the frame (they had been hanging by the cables), pulled the bowls and blew everythign out with some WD-40 (I forgot the actual carb cleaner at the house, but they had been drained and looked fine) just for good practice since I had the bowls off. Installed 110 mains since it was super weak at WOT before, I have 108s too if the 110's turn out to be too much. K&N pods and stock exhaust, 800' or so elevation.

Ran out of daylight and wanted to verify accuracy below the scale on the torque wrench otherwise I'd have set timing and torqued the cams.

Rode it out to Fort Ord for some Mtb racing in which I took second place and won back my entry fee with a small cash prize. Then heading back to Brentwood I rode over Mt. Hamilton because why the hell not right? On the way up Hami I came across a guy taking his wife or girlfriend out for a ride. I caught them very quickly and she quickly slowed and waved me by. The dude on the I their hand decided to speed up for some reason I can only guess was ego related. He spent half the time looking in his mirrors trying to figure out WTF was following him because if you have t been follow so far with this post I've got the Mtb on the back of the 250. I entertained him for a bit while I wait for a safe spot to pass because I don't like scaring slower riders. Finally I didn't give a **** whether or not I scared the dipshit so I just squeezed by between two corners and a couple corner later he was out of sight. I can only imagine its hard on the self esteem to get passed by a ninja 250 carrying a Mtb while going uphill.

Anyways I got out to the junction and stopped in for a rootbeer float at the recommendation of @Alex to which I was very impressed. While hanging out in the bar this lady goes to walk out and then abruptly responds with "oh my god you guys have to come out and see this" my ride had garnered quite the attention and I was bombed with a ton of questions. One of the more intrigued and experienced riders by the name of David Olden chatted with me for awhile before asking if he could follow me down to Livermore. I was in no hurry so I said sure and we proceeded at my casual fun pace which for those who know is still pretty fast. Once in Livermore I stop to ask David's opinion of the rack at speed and he said it was very smooth and looked to be a solid design. He was pretty bummed I left him gopro at home but I told him there's always next time. We exchanged info and set out on our way, I'll be keeping him in mind for my longer Sierra rides in the future.

David takes way better picture then I do.

Shimmed my stock needles by 2mm.

Took the bike out for a rid-whoa... Perfect idle, throttle response seems smoother than a baby's ass after a few weeks of lean.

Needles, behave yourselves.

Yesterday: found that my upper fairing with headlight had been stored improperly for a long time after someone moved it. Had to take everything apart to flush the leaves, worms, and slugs from the headlight and the ant colony from the right mirror. I even had to fill and drain the headlight. I hope there's no scum remaining in there like the film of slime all over the windscreen and upper plastics.

I also assembled my Harbor Freight tire changing station and built a base for it out of an old table.

The spot weld cutter didn't work as well as I had hoped and now I have more holes in one of my EX250F tanks. No matter how deep I cut, it still seemed to be attached. It required prying.

I spent a lot of time trying to pull dents from the same tank using a Pops-a-Dent kit and made some progress but the deepest part was stubborn and I eventually ran out of glue.

Today: Still in bed but I plan to add some storage to my tire changing station for various accessories, at least. If I have time after installing an electric pet fence then I want to pull the carbs from one of my parts bikes and clean it to familiarize myself. I was told that it was missing the jet needles so I guess I need to order a kit.

if the bike is stock with airbox, then yes pulling the carbs sucks. For me, it is a ten minute or less affair.

Dropped her off at the shop for the 40k service, checking on the leaking fork, check on the fuel issue, check on the tires nearing the wear bar already, install a 15t sprocket, and an overall check to ensure she is ready to go on a LONG trip.

The estimate was downright scary!!

Damn most of that you could do yourself so you know its going to be expensive. Anyone else feel that when you ask a shop to do something you yourself should be able to do they charge you double out of spite and maybe because they figure your easy to take advantage of?

I'd love to hear how much it is and what they said they did in the end. I figure I charge to little for working on bikes but it's done more so for others here as a helping hand then me trying to make money.

I post up the final bill when I get it. Most of the damage is in the hourly labor cost.

If I rode over the hill could I leave the bike with you to work on during a week then pick it up again the following weekend?

I wish a had more time because you would be the first person to ask for my help recently. With all my Mtb races(like 2-3 times a week) I barely seem to have time to keep the Mtb and my ninja in tip top shape. I thought this weekend would be my first one off in a month but I just had someone remind me of a race at lake sanoma on Saturday. So much for some down time, I guess I'll change the oil in the ninja before starting work at 4:30am tomorrow

Put on new registration sticker, turn signal, and my chinese rearset brake light pressure switch. Need to swing by the hardware store and pick up some more clear tubing to prevent the tank plastics from rubbing the tank again.

Pulled the fairings off to get the new LED lights for the dash and to wash the engine and other components off after a very dirty winter ride it had this past winter, replaced some of the nasty looking bolts with new clean polished SS bolts and wire wheeled the axles and shot some clear coat on them to keep them looking shiny, and a much needed proper bath and wax job instead of car washes.

Damn. My 250J headlight is screwed.

Whatever that black stuff is does not come off. It looks like scratches in it but it isn't. I tried 91% alcohol, hot water, concentrated dish detergent, bleach, Simple Green, etc with a nylon bottle brush. Eventually I got a bit of the chrome stuff to flake off and so I finally stopped trying. As it dried it seemed like the reflective film shrunk so the little flake is now in the middle of a large bubble of air under the chrome film.

I've come to the conclusion that parts are safer in a junkyard than they are in mine.

The 250F carbs I looked at today have very rough edges around those openings. Is that OK?

How the black stuff get in and on it? It's not the actual black plastic is it? As far as those burrs go, just file them smooth. Shouldn't really affect much to make a noticeable difference.

I hope there's no scum remaining in there like the film of slime all over the windscreen and upper plastics.
Other than that one missing flake the black stuff is not the plastic beneath. It doesn't seem to be a layer coating the reflective film either. I think the organisms just chemically changed it so it isn't reflective anymore because nothing I do can remove it.

I'm worried that I'll leave scratches inside, which I know we want to avoid as well. Which is worse?
