Tire question
So my girlfriend has a crack in her rear tire and I see the lasertecs on sale, the bike has BT45's in the front and rear.
Is it ok to have a BT45 in the front and a lasertec in the back? Or should i just get another BT45. |

How much life is left in the front tire? It's probably getting close to needing replacement so while there's a sale on I'd change out both.

As in dryrot? How old are the tires? And you can mix and match any tire combo as long as you don't outride the weakest tires traction.

Since the tires have very low mileage on them I would change just the rear.

Yes as long as you don't outride the weakest tires traction as csmith12 previously stated.

Good on you for replacing that tire, that crack would worry me quite a bit as well. Going with the Lasertecs on one end and keeping the BT-45 on the other is not likely to cause issues on a bike that isn't ridden right to the end of its performance envelope.

What do you mean by "performance envelope"? If by any chance you mean "limit"... she isn't afraid to do 85-95mph on twisty highways infact, she does it MUCH better than myself

I'd get a different tire than a Lasertec, I got 3500 miles out of one on the rear on my 500, I got 11,000 miles on an Avon Roadrider. Roadrider is a much better tire too.
Current rear has over 3k on it and still looks new, front has 14k on it and is nowhere near needing to be replaced. Seriously though that kind of mileage on a 50hp bike is pathetic, it may be a little better on a 250 but still. My CBR has a Q2 on the back and isn't wearing as fast, and I ride it pretty hard. |

I mean if she is a very aggressive rider, and taking the tires up to their traction limits, the differences in compound and profile between running 2 different tires might have more of an effect. Running high speed on the highway wouldn't matter as much.

I'll talk to her about it since I could only find rear BT45's on cyclegear and they're $182 a piece

Look for the Diablo Rosso II's. They're cheaper than the BT45 and people are saying that they are a pretty good tire. Not sure about the rain capabilities of both but they are my next purchase for my 300.

If you haven't looked at this yet, there is a good New-Gen tire page. New-Gen Tire Options
I would also check out Revzilla or Motorcycle Superstore for their prices. Cyclegear is way expensive for one rear tire. Good luck!

I raced in the rain on the rosso II's, they did just fine. I must add that my tolerance of slipping around is a bit higher than the norm though. Although, I do ride them on the street too, seemed just fine to me there as well.
