Guilty as charged! big, intentionally built jumps scare me. Been hurt on those. Little humps and crossings and roots that I can launch off off and catch air on my own terms rock!!! It's all a mind game. I've gotten more air off 'natural' jumps on the trail that have me flying inches from trees and rocks than I have on 'man made jumps that have tons of runoff and lots of space. But for some reason, the big natural ones flow better with me. idk, it's a mental thing.

Nice! 650B. Rock it! New bikes both rock and suck at the same time. NEW BIKE! but on the other hand, you have to learn a new set of things you dislike about a bicycle haha

Went to look at a used bike at a bike shop for my GF. Too big. She needs smaller than I expected. On the bright side, I did get to test out a fat bike while she was riding the roadie. May have killed it for myself; heavy as balls and the weight is all carried in the wrong places. I'd have to be really impressed by one on the trail before my mind sways. It was pretty fun when I launched off a curb and rode some gravel/mud for a bit though. I'll have to trail test one before considering buying. good for my wallet for now.

Here's a better shot from the shop.

Thanks! I'm stocked about the 650B wheels. Will roll over rocks and roots a bit better. We have too much junk on these trails here.

Yeah, my wife is small and wants a smaller bike herself. Next thing on my list is a fattie too.

Which one did you try? @choneofakind

it was a surly something or another. It was bright green and had like 3.5" tires on it I think? Nothing special in terms of part spec: BB5 brakes, basic shimano derailleurs, no name shifters, basics.

Maybe a higher end one would catch my fancy, but it just wasn't as playful as my MTB, not nearly as responsive and snappy as a hard tail should be. It would be killer for slower ride-in camping trips, but not so much for ripping between trees and over heavy roots like so many of my local trails are. I definitely wouldn't want to take jumps until I'm comfortable on it.

Check out the Specialized Fatboy or the Rocky Mountain Blizzard.

I don't think I can invest that much in a fattie though. I'd rather have a good regular MTB and a cheaper fattie for fun once in a while. I'm looking at Mongoose Vinson or Gravity Bullseye Monster as a fat bike.

Back on the roadie again.

I'm just using it for small trips to the store. All the potential buyers were full of it.

Rear rack is back on and just some platform pedals installed. A little quick grocery getter. Anything more and I'll take my cargo bike.

I've seen the trek. The shop I worked at sold them. I just never got around to riding one.

Ugh, fatty trikes. Jokes.

Speaking of trikes, we got my mo-in-law a trike to cruise around in. There is no way she could ride a normal bike, but this little single speed is great for her:

She hasn't had a chance to ride it yet because she got sick, but hopefully soon.

I'm selling my 2000 Trek 6000 and so far all the buyers would change their mind the next day. Now I got one "coming" tomorrow. We'll see what this guys says.

Took the HRS out today. My eggbeaters are starting to rust a little. Time for a touch of oil to tone it down some.

Anyway, the goal for today was a nice and easy ride. My motor isn't what it was 6-months ago, so I just cruised in a nice and easy gear. The first half of the ride I did about 12mph and kept my HR at around 140. My stomach started cramping (which rarely happens), so I turned around right when I hit mile 11. I was riding easy and the cramps got a bit worse. I stopped after 1 mile and stretched some, that seemed to help.

I got back on my bike and started riding easy. The cramps were starting to come back. I figured I tried slow and it didn't work, why not try fast? So I shifted up a gear and started to push it a little. The next thing I new I was up about 3 gears, cranking out 15mph into a good headwind and my HR was maxed. I pushed it like that for about 10-miles, and then did a nice 2-mile cool down. All in all, 25-miles.

I feel frickin' GREAT. I have a physical assessment this Wednesday for the free gym at my wife's job. I'm going to take advantage of that. Heck, personal trainer time is free too. I'd be stupid not to.

Not to be THAT GUY who's a Debbie downer, but remember the fine line between tacky fun mud and too muddy to ride. General rule of thumb; if it clogs your tread instead of staying on the ground and you leave tracks, stop riding.

That's all.

The pic was taken about a third in of my ride. It wasn't mudy mudy, just some of the places on the trails...weird. Some nice jumps are mudy and I was spinning all the way up....I need tires with a better grip though. But no, it wasn't sticky to clog my bike. There's a fine line, like you say. I would take a fat bike in the mud though.

My wife found an old Trek 800 MTB on a garage sale site. It was an excellent price and looked like it was in good shape. We went to check it out and it seemed good.

Picked it up and the next day I spent a good portion of it working on the bike. Tore down the bike (all except the rear derailleur and headset so far) and cleaned every inch of it. I had to take it to the LBS to get the BB removed (old old style, didn't have a tool). Got a new Shimano BB square taper installed, it is like butter compared to the old one. Fresh grease in all the hubs, greased brake pivots, cleaned and lubed cables, etc. I need to replace those crappy cantilever bakes with some v-brakes.

I even installed some Continental 26x2.1 tires (crosstrekking tires). Thing thing rides SMOOTH. It is like it has a front suspension fork on there, even though it is a rigid. I wish it was a larger frame, I'd ride it all over the place. I'd love to replace the SIS shifting system, but it works for now.

I want to find a larger version of this bike to mess with. It would be fun to race!

So I have a MINT 2011 HiFi Plus. I paid 2300 when I got it, but for some reason, bicyclebluebook.com says it is only worth 1100. This bike is in like-new condition. I could part out the brakes, the rear shock, the front shock and the gruppo, nothing else, and make more money.

That site is making bikes depreciate faster than they used to. There is absolutely no way it is worth 1100. It is pretty much a NEW BIKE. I'm frustrated. I priced it at $1800, which is honestly a fair price. Sure, you could get a brand new version of this bike from Trek for $2500, but the only real difference is a slightly upgraded rear shock and the rear shifter (which is honestly on par).

Am I wrong for thinking that bicyclebluebook.com is a load of crap? People are going off that site without thinking twice about exactly WHAT they are buying. Cars, yeah, they have been doing that for years and years, so it is pretty much down pat. Bicycles, there is no way my bike is worth ONLY 1100. BS.

Over 50% depreciation in three years (sure, it is a 2011, but I got it right when the 2012's were coming out), no way. It is like having a 2011 Mustang GT500 with only 10,000 miles on it, and saying it is worth less than 50% of its original price. BS.

I've used BBB a lot lately. I've found it to be pretty accurate.

I've seen lots of fairly new Trek Fuel EXs for around 1000. I guess the bicycle market is different.

You see, if I were to pay for your bike 1800, I'd rather give 400 more and get a brand new 2015 bike. For that reason, sellers have to lower their prices.

Mark, I've pretty much accepted that bikes are worth nearly nothing after being bought and used.

I just bought a bike and done put over $300 in it. To me, it's worth $1100, was 900 new. Most won't pay half of that for it now. It's a 2015 too.

That's why if you buy new, you better be damn sure you want to ride that bike for years and years. Same can be said for most objects. Haha.

I've seen lots of fairly new Trek Fuel EXs for around 1000. I guess the bicycle market is different.

You see, if I were to pay for your bike 1800, I'd rather give 400 more and get a brand new 2015 bike. For that reason, sellers have to lower their prices.
Okay, I see the logic in that. It just seems that 50% on a like-new bike, when the technology on the new bike is almost identical to the like-new bike, and you would be spending 700 more for the new bike, I thought it was a no brainer. 1100 just seemed severely low to me. Maybe I can weasel $1300 out of it. That is 1100 less than the equivalent new model.

You might be able to squeeze 1300. I've learned that patience pays off. Got a bunch of offers on my Ninjette for 1900, 1800, 2000, 2200...My lowest price was 2400 and that's what I sold it for.

Try posting it on classified on mtbr.com. Thousands of bikers there.
