Hello from Central California

My name's Heidi. I started riding an '05 SV650S in 2004 then switched to a BMW F650GS less than a year later. Traveled over 50k miles on my little thumper and really enjoyed touring the USA. I've literally been coast to coast with it and took a 2500 mile solo ride about 3 years ago.

I recently sold the BMW in favor of a new, 2010, Ninja 250R and man am I having a freakin' blast on this thing! Scary fun and a total giggle in seat - this bike is much, much more exciting than any other bike I've ridden.

I'm so glad I found a forum for the 250's as I like to keep up the maintenance stuff myself and have already begun a list of mods to do to it. Below is a pic and also are the mods currently in progress + ones on my to-do list.

Please jump in with any comments or suggestions! Thanks again for providing a great forum!

On order:
Fender Eliminator - Targa
Levers - Pazzo's
16/41 Sprockets - Driven/Sunstar(after engine break in!)
Flush mounted front turn sigs

To-Do List:
Seat Cowl
Brock's Racing Exhaust
DynoJet Jet Kit
DynoJet Power Commander(fiance influence )
150/70/17 rear tire(maybe!)

welcome to the club! get the 150/60r17 not the 70r17 it pushed my bikes a** up a little bit so the 60 would give it a little lower profile since it wouldn't pinch as much just a thought

Welcome, VelvtRide.

So you have already fallen in love with your lil Ninja. (Love the color and decals on that 2010!!!) The Ninja 250 is the most fun I've had on 2 wheels.
I saw your recent post on ADV Rider that you were looking at the 250.
Glad you got what you wanted and that you found ninjette.org. Great people here and you can learn alot about doing your own mods on this site.

Other members have installed a 16 tooth front sprocket but had to shave the cover a bit to get clearance.

Welcome!!! I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there is a power commander for the US ninja 250s due to the fact they aren't fuel injected. The rest of the world has the fuel injected versions on the 250 though.

I did the research - they do.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the ninjette Heidi. Mucho info on DIY maintenance on here, along with many extremely knowledgeable riders that can help.

Howdy! Nope, PC's are solely for fuel-injected bikes. The way those work is adjusting the fuel signals sent to the injectors to provide more or less fuel at different times. Can really help clean up the performance on some fuel-injected bikes. But with carbs on our ninjette, there's nothing like that to control. The only thing close is a replacement CDI, which only controls the spark timing. The most popular one seems to be the BRT TIS, which Sportisi sells on this board.

There are some folks in the UK and other places with fuel-injected 250's who have installed power commanders, but that doesn't help us over here unfortunately.

Other than fuel, the PC also controls air fuel mixture via ecu and timing, too. You just leave the fuel part out of it, since it doesn't work with the engine.

Nope. Air-fuel mixture on our bikes is mechanically controlled by the carburetors. No electronic controls whatsoever. The PC simply won't interact with any ECU on our bike because there isn't an ECU on the bike. It can't affect timing as there just isn't an ECU to connect it to. Anything you've found online about hooking up a dynojet power commander to a ninja 250 is about a non-carbed ninjette.

The technical support # for Dynojet is 800-992-4993 and their site is right up here; give them a shout to talk to them about it if you like. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you a PC V to put onto your next bike with FI. If you want to adjust the air-fuel mixture on a carbed bike, including our US-spec ninjettes, that means changing actual jets in the carburetors, changing the air filter, etc.

Thanks! They come in tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to putting them on! Can't ride until Tuesday because I'm waiting for the RTV to cure after flush mounting the front turn sigs.
