Body position. You account for a third of the bikes weight... Use it

Edit: maybe only a quarter since you are concentrate

I wouldn't worry about it too much. We have all had our noob bike moments where we wind up tossing our bike down the road. Just learn what you can, don't let it get you down. Focus on getting healthy again and getting your bike

There are specific cases where that is not true.

In fact, pretty much the first sign of danger, I switch to 'track mode' gun it and run it. Road ragers, drunks, teenage testers... Dangers aren't to be ****ed with on a bike so just gtfo

Late to the game, but sorry to hear this Jo! But very glad to hear that you made it out in one piece.

Heal up and rest up, and let's start a MD 300 club next season!

sorry to hear about this as well, though as i read through i did feel that it was a tad ironic that the cause of the scare leading to the crash was the bike being lowered what seems to be too far

lol, I know what you mean, but if you think gunning it straight on a 250 is track mode then I'm in track mode 24/7...
I meant more along the lines of crazy lean angles and taking super sharp corners at high rates of speed without any concern of yielding for traffic or potentially losing it and going crashing into traffic/pedestrians etc...

so you are saying wreckless disregard for traffic and possibly losing it and crashing into pedestrians is... "track mode"???

pretty much...
you think its sane to be riding the way we do on the track on the street?
When I'm on the track I'm taking turns fast as ****, without thinking about a car coming the other way or being fully committed in the corners without worrying about a pedestrian crossing the street...
At least that's how I ride. Balls to the wall, I don't know about you.

let me ask you this then, when going around a corner at 55mph, with how much power the ninja 250 has, how much throttle will give you the correct 40/60 weight to provide "optimal traction" according to keith code? the answer is WOT. let me ask you another question, when you are on the street, would you rather be near cars or away from them? pretty easy answer right? cars kill you... stay away from them. so now lets put this logic into a scenario... you've pulled to a red light on a street that curves to the right with plenty of visibility. you have traffic stopped at the light in front of you, and cars approaching behind you. as you approach, you filter to the front (stay away from the cars approaching from the rear) and when its green you go at full speed (put distance between you and cars) and then properly keep WOT as you go around the fully visible corner to continue adding distance between you and your enemies while at the same time providing optimal traction...

not sure if you lane split in canada

maybe i simply have a bigger distinction between "race mode" and "track mode"

Minikin_Jo's Crash

So far this is all I got. Hope the link works and all. The footage was captured by @Old Lemon's camera:

Link to original page on YouTube.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=...ype=3&theater#

(Let me know if it doesn't. I will try something else to share it.)

For those not aware of what happened:
I was in the left curve and my peg/shoe started to scrape the ground. I tried to straighten up a tad but the curve seemed to get sharper. I knew I'd run off the side of the road and I did. I meant to only for a moment, but I ended up staying in the grass on the shoulder about 100ft running paralell with the road. When I made contact with the pavement again, I couldn't understand why I suddenly headed for trees and I froze up...it wasn't until later (in the hospital) I learned when I got onto the road it started to curve to the right.

I have a shattered right scapula, minor concussion, alot of bruising and swelling, all on my right side of my body. I spent 3 days in the hospital.

My bike is totaled (album of pics in my profile) and so is all the gear/clothing I had on.

Alex is making a pretty good case @LoneRonin!

@alex.s: I'm not sure the police will see eye-to-eye with you on your street-riding-philosophy, but I guess it's a lot cheaper to pay for speeding tickets than it is to pay for medical bills.

also... <3 lane splitting! (we call it filtering)

i explained my last 95mph in a 45mph speeding pull-over very clearly and precisely to the gentleman and he kindly handed me back my information and told me i should get some gauges in the future without a ticket... so i think some of them do.. some, not so much (ticket before that was 95 in a 55... bascially i just do 95 everywhere)

Looking at those pictures part of me wonders how you walked away, doesn't look like an enjoyable ride in the least bit, I can say I am glad you survived and are with us! I hope you recover quickly and can find your way back to the streets again someday soon!

@DennyV Thank you for putting up the Youtube link. Greg did it for me last night as I realized others couldn't view it from FB.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am not sure if Greg deleted the recording of my riding just prior to the accident. I watched it and there is nothing crazy I'm doing to indicate I'm going to wreck. Just looked like a chill easy ride. The file got corrupt right before I ran off the road. One of the other guys that rode with us said the same happened to his. Not sure what was in that area to make our cameras not work at the same time/location.

In a crash things happen so quickly and it is hard to do the correct things fighting fears and instincts and target locking. It is tough for me to go through the crash section as i understand that most of the situations could easily be me any day of the week :/ Most people don't expect to crash....i guess i do and accept that sooner or later it is gonna happen be it my fault or someone elses. Just hope to come out of it with some new found wisdom and the ability to hope back on the steel horse.

in short, glad to hear you are doing well and hopefully you make a full recovery mind and body and jump back in the saddle, besides after insurance pays up you have a 600 to look forward to right?

best,
joe

heard about this crash through friends that were at the ride. good to see you're okay. POR/Frederick Loop ride has a lot of riders that crash whom are unfamiliar with the route. heal up and get back out there.
