A friend of mine has a video of him and another riding. There were three vultures in the road ahead. The video shows two taking flight but the third was struggling to get airborne. A few seconds of struggling wasn't enough to get it of the way and my friend hit the bird.

Exactly what the turkey thought about that biker ..........

We discussed this a few weeks back:
Another unexpected road hazard - birds

The turkey was peacefully eating road kill.
It suddenly hears all that noise and commotion approaching fast (different from those familiar cars).

It thinks: "I better gthooh !!!"
Normally having woods or rock walls on one side, in what direction it is going to take off?

Always slowdown much around big birds eating road kill.
Here is another reason: "In the United States, the vulture receives legal protection under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918."

It is great that, although getting stinky, you didn't fall down.
