Nice. My permit had to be near another licensed rider, sucked cause you couldn't technically ride alone.

Be aware that you have just reached your vulnerability peak.

Go slow, practice counter-steering, moderate braking and swerving (one at a time, never combined) in parking lots and ride super-alert.

Hope you have gone through the threads of the Riding Skills section.

Hope to see you on the road! On a bike of course. Ride safe and aware but not scared.

Ive put about 350 miles on my biks since january and everything is starting to seem so natural im not really thinking about certain things. Its weird your so worried at first then things just start to click.

Ill tell you what though my left wrist is sore though i did about 5 hours of riding today and im hurting ha.

Ill be going to the msf course as well. Are you going to the one at boyce park? Maybe ill see you there!

Sorry for rambling good luck!

The concern here is heartwarming. It shows support but its hesitant, like a child taking their first steps. The last thing the guy at the DMV said to me was "please, just don't be a statistic." I can't say that nothing will happen but I can say I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I'm ready if something does Oh, and I was in the riding skills section before I even made an account here lol. I'll go through again

Rubber side down. Smart side up. Ride within your limits and make sure you wear your helmet and it'll stay that way I have an MSF less than 10 miles from me at Luzerne County Community College. Now that I have the permit, I gotta sign up as soon as possible.

EVERYBODY HAVE FUN OUT THERE!!!! I'LL WAVE IF I SEE YOU!!!

Congrats on the permit!

Practicing at a big empty parking lot is definitely a must for new riders.

My two cent is, practice stop and go first. This may seem like the easiest thing to do, but it will take some getting used to for new riders. Just like driving a new car, it takes time to adjust to the brakes sensitivity to stop smoothly without the sudden jerks. Then there's the take off. Control your throttle and slowly releasing the clutch so you won't throw yourself back unexpectedly, or worse, stall.

Just relax and have fun. See you out on the roads~~

Stoppies are first. Sorry. Wheelies will only take like 30 seconds right? I just pull that thingy on the left and rev the bike until it his the red part of the dash thingy and then let the left thingy go. Newbs do wheelies.

Your forgetting to put your legs over the handlebars before the stoppie. And for wheelies you of course stand on your passanger seat.

Now that you mention it when doing a wheelie i beleive your supposed to lean back and stick your foot in the front wheel so it stops moving. That way theres no wind resistance. Then you slam on the back break oh and dont forget to wear a helmet.

Congratulations on your first step into a life long addiction! I read where you said to always wear your helmet but do you have a jacket, pants and gloves? Your head is not the only thing which might get hurt if you have even a small accident! ATGATT is very important all the time especially the first few rides. I didn't mention boots because you can get away with good work boots at first but they should be on your list of must haves. Road rash is so not fun and can ruin a nice day of riding. Be careful and take the advice above, practice, be alert and smart and take it slow. There will be plenty of time to see how fast it can accelerate later when you have the muscle memory to deal with anything that may happen! Welcome and ride safe

in CA on a permit you can not ride during the darkness or on any freeway (not sure for all states but a freeway would be any 2 or more lanes with on/off ramps) nor carry any passenger unless a qualified instructor or a M1 licensed rider.

I am a huge believer of ATGATT. I have a thick leather jacket (not moto but its temporary) and I still have to find a good pair of gloves. Until I have motocentric stuff, I'll be substituting and taking her slow. I will be building the collection of gear as quick as possible. Biggest problem is cost. Know where I can find super gear for stupid cheap?

NorthEast Pennsylvania. We don't have many sportbike riders around here. Those that we do have are squids from what ive seen, so no used gear out there in the cesspool. The good news is I will be able to contribute to this thread http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...=squid+fishing once I get an onboard camera

the more experienced you get the less this is likely to happen, if you're riding safely there are almost no times where you would have to lay your bike down. There's typically another way out of the situation.

Unfortunately the state I did it in wouldn't just give the license even with MSF. Still had to hold a permit for 30 days.
