I still can't believe I didn't see you out on the track! We'll have to make sure that happens in the Spring. (I'm on the orange and black 250).
Riding with Wesley and Alex helped me gain a little perspective on my riding (turns out I was/am giving up a LOT of time in turn 6, and I'm still not happy), and just riding one session with Rick helped me drop about a half second off my personal best. I ran some mid 1:22s and consistent (& reasonably comfortable) 1:23s when I wasn't dodging big bikes, and think that the Spring will see further improvement. |

Didn't your lack of incidents at Gateway put you WAY below average? You should have seen this one coming!
How are you and the bike doing? |

I'm fine, lowsided entering Deadbear (Turn 8). I got the bike back up and started, then realized my left reaset dissapeared ripped the whole rearset off where it bolts to the frame, bending the frame in a little. So I'll have to try and bend it back and probably weld in some support to keep the frame from folding again.

Damn, Deadbear is hungry for rearsets as of late. Your the 3rd 250 rider who has had their rearset ripped out of the frame in the last 2 or 3 track/race days. Good luck with the repairs.

Ah, glad to hear you're alright, it's too bad about the peg mounts. I want to reinforce that mounting area as well. At this point I'm trying to figure out if I can manage to do it without removing the swingarm and everything, but I have a feeling to get a nice weld in there I'll have to.

Here's the damage: I'll have to bend the frame back out, and reinforce the mount, then should be good to go. At least it was the last day of the season.... plenty of time to make repairs and improvements I'm going to reinforce the other side as well, prevent a small incident from ruining a race day/weekend next year

Looks like reinforcement of that area is a good idea, but have you thought about notching or drilling the footpegs in some way to give them a break-away point so the damage stops there? Easy enough to just carry an extra peg or 2. |

Here are my Woodcraft rearsets after my lowside on Saturday. The bike slid out bending up shifter back. Once the bike was on the ground and sliding it turned so the tail was the first part to go off the track. It looks like the peg caught the dirt and ripped out of the frame. you can see exactly what part is covered in dirt, and the peg bent forward. Had it had a better design, I believe the dirt would have just ripper the peg off, and I wouldn't be fixing a frame right now... You can see the "break away" cuts did nothing, and held completely in tact: You can see where the rearset got ripped at the mounts, and the shifter bend back and rashed, along with the peg from the initial slide: Again you can see the shifter bent back and the peg rashed from the initial slide. But then the dirt on the back half of the peg which is bent forward, causing the force which ripped the entire rearset from the mounts: Now for the frame: You can see it was the force applied from the rearset towards the front of the bike that ripped it from the frame. Bending the frame in until the mounts finally gave: Here are my Attack Rearsets off my old '09 zx6r. You can see here it's a hollow design, but with no bottom half. This is so in a crash, it takes very small amount of force to break the end of the peg off right at the "break away" point. From the back it's hard to see, but looking at the left side, you can see how the peg has very little material at the end and how the underside has no bottom half so it breaks easier in a crash. The base of the peg is completely solid, so you still have about 1 1/2" left after the tip breaks away to finish a race if need be. Once I fix the frame and add reinforcement, I'm going to cut the bottoms of the pegs off like the Attacks to hopefully help protect the frame and easily break away

Awesome build, but why does everyone use those grey renthal grips on track/race bikes?
Really want a 250 for track/race, debating turning my 500 into a track or race bike but the 250 is a lot more popular and has a better aftermarket. |

Whoa! On entrance?!?!?! Hmmm.... I was at Putnam just 2 weeks ago and 5 other riders went down in the same area and I went off track in that exact same spot that weekend. Interesting.....

I talked to @rc-rick , who was following me and said it looked like I tried to square off the turn too much entering late and putting too much load on the front tire. It was the last session before lunch ( my first session out) about the 4th or 5th lap, just trying to figure out what lines worked on the 250... apparently not that one

Many riders take that line. Deadbear has many lines that work, it's just a choice of where you do want to be faster, entry, midcorner or exit. Although, you seemed to be directly on top of the seam, maybe that's it. Rick would know better, as he seen it first hand.
Your line looks similar to my track day line, with a later apex. Mid track turn in for a tight exit near the early-top of the corner. It's more of the wet line vs a dry line for me though. When dry, I like to take a mid corner apex there. Because the 250 is twitchy enough leaned way over as it is without adding the camber change at the far right top of turn 8 into the mix. YMMV of course and I am only a 3rd place racer. Like you, when I went off the track, I had no clue why my rear broke traction. It had been fine for my pace all day. Just seems odd that this area of track is now suddenly seeing more crashes where it wasn't before. On a side note, did you happen to see a rearset out there (same as yours)? We still have a missing one. lol

I lost the front there in a very similar fashion. Nearly no warning, tucked front on entrance. I chocked mine up to cold and old tires at the time.
