What do you do to rid yourself of stress?

It has been one stressful year for me. Job stuff, grandmother passing, dealing with house stuff (just sold off the old rental), and now my grandfather is going downhill. Not a good year at all. My neck and shoulders have been driving me nuts due to tension. I cannot even ride my bicycle for extended periods anymore without that bugging me.

I try to listen to music, but that is only temporary. I'm thinking of doing yoga again. I kind of did it ages ago, but not really all that much. I think I need to do something slow but still a workout. Lifting weights is ok, but I don't want to get into a gym anymore. If there was a cheap one close by, I'd consider it, but there isn't.

What do you do to keep you stress levels in check?

Get yourself a punching bag, do some form of martial arts or go to the range.

If you have a fireplace/heating stove taking the axe to firewood is a good one.

You may see a theme here...

I have a B.O.B. in my garage. I used that bag back when I was in TKD. Just haven't used it in ages. That would be a great workout though. I'll have to consider it!

I know I've tried that. It does nothing for me in the long run. I feel fine for a few hours, then it all comes back. Temporary and expensive for me.

I used to use online gaming or just gaming in general to get rid of stress. But now that actually adds more stress.

Now I just take a nice long car ride (can't wait for that to become bike rides).

To relieve stress I spend time with my kids. Either that or I ride the bike, clean the bike, watch a good movie, take a bath, or just daydream.

Stress is every where man. Don't let it get to you!!

I got married June of 2011

Had my first son October of 2011

Bought a house Feb of 2012 (85 mile round trip commute to work)

Had my second son October of 12

I know a thing or two about stress!!

better than paying an extra $50k in interest.
if he doesn't i guess he can divert money from housing to bikes.

i was assuming he had an additional account earmarked for entertainment, lol.

Not really sure what you're looking for as far as stress relief methods. All the ones I know of are temporary since what was/is a stressor before is still going to be a stressor when you're exposed to it again.

I personally love online games. I'll admit in some instances, it can add stress but I feel it's a different kind and it definitely helps me get other problems off my mind. I also love mountain biking and riding the Ninja but those are a bit tough depending on weather conditions. IMO, it really has to be something that engages me. Anything else that lets my mind wander is just going to let me start thinking about everything that's stressing me out.

Vodka...something I used to drink that I really can't anymore. Sake is good, Merlot, gin & tonic, or a nice Guinness will work for me.
