Unhappy So Cal to Alabama

I'm from SoCal originally and have moved to Alabama. Just bought my Ninja 250 2006 last month. Unfortunately, I have to get surgery on my shoulder next month on the 9th of july. Great.. and I just dropped my bike. Literally. Dropped, in a garage, at a stand still. Seems like the most mundane, simplest things I can do I do the most damage. Like throwing a ball (reason for surgery).

Anyhow, I'll find the right place to post the now new issues for dropping my bike (specifically the oil sight glass broke) due to the rear brake crunching it. Any thoughts, comments or help would be great.

you can also follow me at @rebecca_morrow on twitter.

Well howdy there.

Nice to see another bama member here. I'm from Mobile and we also have another on this site from Mobile. I'm not sure what part of bama you're in but regardless, welcome to the site.

Good luck with the surgery and don't worry about the sight glass. I did the same thing. I used a scribe (long pointy piece of metal) and dug out the old sight glass, stuck some oil around the new on and just pushed her in there. Easy fix. If you need help with anything, just post it up. If you're close enough, I may be able to help in person.

Glad to have ya.

-Brandon

Thanks all for the wishes. I live off the 280 in the Birmingham Metro Area. Surgery is on 7.9.09.

Thanks for the heads up on the glass, too! Sounds like it should be easy enough. Thankfully, I didn't fall OFF my bike.

I will keep everyone posted about my surgery and the progress towards healing. I am hoping that I will be out and about riding in about 2 months, or at least by my birthday.

Welcome. Not to be nosy but what are you having done? It can't be too bad it you can start riding again in 2 months. I was in a sling for about 6 months. I bought my bike a month after I got out of the sling. I had to have an open bankart(sp?) procedure. No fun at all. Any way take care of your self and do what the docs an your PT tell you.

I'm having arthroscopic surgery and they have to repair the labrum, cartilage (they will take it and stretch it anteriorly), and repair the ligament that I tore, too.

The injury is a reverse hill sach's lesion (a very unusual and uncommon injury, typically induced by a full posterior dislocation or occurs during a seizure). I thew a ball and subluxed it. They SAY that the recovery time is 4-6 weeks, but I'm sure I'll have quite some more recovery with the physical therapy, too. Bleah.

Birthday - 9.20.77

Thanks all, and i'll keep you posted. Oh, as far as the oil sight glass, we got it out, and the bike is draining the oil and we'll replace the filter and put more oil in. Thanks for all the suggestions and help!

now.. back to attempting concentration on darvocet while trying to work.

Thanks all... the surgery is coming up and I now have to go get my pre-op lab work done. As if the arthrogram and the grotesquely enormous spinal needle that was shoved in my shoulder wasn't bad enough. Yeesh.

For now, though, Ms Stealth (my 250) has had an oil change, getting new levers for the front brake and the clutch. I'm going to go get her registered friday. I'm thinking IPWNEDU for the plate.

Hi nice to see some more Alabamians on the forum. Also there is a local forum with a lot of people from Birmingham area on it http://www.alsportbike.com I think im about the only one with a ninjette on there though. All the bama members on here need to register on there so we can have more 250 riders on there.

Thanks for the link to the site. Looks like you are right not many 250 riders on it if any. I did find that the Cycle Gear in Trussville is trying to start a bike night.
First one in this Friday 4pm to 8pm. $25 dyno runs. Think i might go. Thanks again for the info.

Well, the update on the surgery... it's going to be next wednesday, July 15th and with another doctor. I got a 2nd opinion and feel much better about it as well as the doctor, too. Fitting that I go to the Children's Hospital as well. Hah! And I can't ride for at least 12 weeks. OOOOOOH... that sucks.

Anyone know where i can get a choke cable and piece for an 06 250EX?

Well that sounds like better news. Sucks that you can't ride though. By the time you recover the riding season will be over.

Heck no! My Cortech Jacket is weather proof with a liner that is removable. And my Scorpion pants are wind proof with a liner. My gloves, on the other hand, are vented (Icon 29ers).

Glad you feel better about the new doc. Hope it goes well and you are good to ride even before the 12weeks. I plan to ride in cold weather also. Call around for the part but you could try big number 1 off valley even though they are not a Kawi dealer they might have one and it's close to you kinda.

sorry to hear about the long time with no riding, but you want to be 100% - we have enough folks trying to kill us that we don't need that added hassle!
as for riding year round - just be careful with cold tires I rode down to 31 this past winter- with enough layers, you don't really notice the cold except in your finger tips`
