replacing oil in forks help

Ok so i am wanting to replace the oil in my forks. I dont want to take the forks down, so im going to drain it and add oil from the top.

my 2 questions are:

1. Do i need a new seal or can i go without it?

2. were is the drain plug on the forks?

Id appreciate an answer with "no i don't need to replace seals" lol

But if you absolutely do then let me know haha

ya i saw that but i didnt really help in anyway lol. He drains it by taking the whole fork out, im wondering if there is a drain plug where you can keep the forks attached. And no help with the seal questions either.

BUT THANKS!

I'd suggest to remove the fork from the bike. If you do it that way, you only have to remove the plug from the top of the fork.

You can drain from the bottom by removing the screw that holds the damper rod in place. If the damper rod shifts while the screw is out, it can be a pain in the ass to put back together.

Either way the front wheel has to come off.

Edit: no you don't have to remove the seals to change the oil.

the damper screw dean is talking about is on the bottom of the fork but if i remember right the axle has to come out in order to gain access to the drain.

if its nasty old oil you probably want to do a full drain. if its new oil (changing thickness or something) you can probably get away with pumping it out from the top
