Test Your Safety Skills - How Did You Score?
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has a cool online test of your perceptual/safety skills. You get a flash of a picture and have to identify the hazard. Take the collision traps test and post your score here! My score: 17/20 on medium. I had to guess at a couple, man there are some details you just don't have time to pick up!

That is a really good score. I'm sure people will be posting perfects, but being honest, there were a few I just missed. One with a car merging from the left, which I thought was the hazard, with a hidden car pulling out from the right ahead that was the real hazard, one asking me about a sign I didn't even see in the photo, etc.
Well done!

18/20 on Fast, 19/20 on Medium. I also just straight up missed (speed limit sign) a few. I suppose it shows me what I haven't really been looking for.

Its a good test though. It makes you quickly think of what you need to do after recognizing an issue. Practice makes perfect as they say! Oh and grazie!

20/20 on the signs on medium
15/20 on the collisions on medium, but it had some trick questions like the railroad sign meaning "bumps ahead" |

19/20 on the signs. Missed the semantics of the handicapped one. I clicked "handicap parking" and it was "handicap area".
18/20 first 2 times I took the collision traps test. 20/20 the 3rd time. Really cool exercise! Thanks for sharing!

19/20 on collision test. Missed the one with the SUV pulling out into my lane, I said to slow, but it wanted me to change lanes...I disagree with this. Going 60 in my cage, I almost rear ended someone stopped in my lane turning left, because I was so busy looking over my shoulder waiting for some idiot to make up his mind about slowing or speeding up. I usually slow down first and change lanes if I can now.

19/20 - Signs test. I don't think I've ever seen the sign I missed.
15/20 - Traps test. I was surprised at how bad I did on this one. Both done at medium speed. |

definitely a thread worth bumping!
17/20 because I disagree with them on lane position, and correct lane. and well, i don't look for mph signs when looking for accident traps. when approaching a traffic light and hitting the brakes, I never ride in the middle of a lane due to the oil, yet that was their suggestion. Poor suggestion, imo. Also the lane choice, middle lane with a large bus entering from the right, always move over and give a big vehicle an additional lane cushion because chances are they'll go a little long, if not just claim the middle lane... maybe that's just my tendency due to the terrible drivers around here, but definitely safer than holding your ground in the middle lane. |

MSF rider perception tests
Just found this when browsing
http://www.msf-usa.org/riderperception/ I tried the collision trap test on (fast) I scored a 16 but at least one of the situations and answers were dumb

I normally don't take these test but thought I would give it a go. Collision trap test on FAST, because SLOW is never and option for me. hahahahahahah Also, I didn't see a stupid question or answer.

potential spoiler if anyone wants to take the test. I had a situation asking "how long till light turns red?" They were wanting me to look at the cross walk sign ahead and read the timer for it and use it as an estimated time before the light would change. IMO that is not necessarily a good thing to rely on as lights do not always work in perfect conjunction with cross walks and I would rather focus on other things. JMO

Signs I managed to get 19/20 since the stop sign with no lettering was the correct answer of Stop (disagree as the only time I've seen that shape and those colors with no letters was to indicate a Stop Ahead, but oh well).
The collision one I'm bombing (16/20, 17/20) since my memory sucks so trying to recall little details without seeing them is hurting. :-/ Course I am finding it funny that they are using pics from Vegas. Talk about distractions galore!

19/20 because I guessed 35 instead of 45 in a construction zone. When in doubt, take your time and go slower I guess

The test was really well done.
I'm surprised they took the pix around LA...like in NY...signs are ignored more often than obeyed...where I am anyway. |
