Bahaha I already laughed at those pics from our other favorite forum. Well he shouldn't bother taking the MSF, because clearly motorcycling is not for him.

The worst part is that the dealer has to eat that. How did that guy not take out something cool like an R6 or R1...deep discounts yo!

Is it not like at a car dealership where you have to sign the little form saying you fix what you break?

Car dealerships move a lot more inventory so they can afford the comprehensive insurance for the cars on the lot. Signing a waiver? No, I've never signed a waiver to test drive a car. The best way to think of it is a service or offer that a dealership uses to get people to buy a car. Not many people would test drive a car if it was a hassle and they had to be responsible for damages done, dealing with paperwork and all of that. If you are out test driving a car and a semi takes you out, what is the dealership going to do? Hit you up for the money? The dealership has the titles all tucked away. If someone who isn't on the title does damage it falls on the owner's shoulders.

That's why dealerships don't do test rides. Insurance costs would hurt them a lot. Could you imagine how many claims they would make a month lol! I talked with a local small dealer and you would be shocked to find out that on bikes like the 300, dealers make $200-300 net profit on the things. That's why they can have blowouts like 700 off of a zx10r or something. The margins are a lot higher on the more expensive bikes. The dealer probably pays 3000 grand for a new ninja 300, has to pay shipping fees on a motorcycle, they come 80% complete in a freight crate, assemble the bike, and of course pay the mechanics to do that, labor ain't cheap. Then paying the salespeople to get rid of the thing, the business itself doesn't make much profit off of bike sales.

Keys for long term dealership success, either move a ton of bikes by undercutting everyone else or monopolizing a popular brand. Think being the only Vespa dealer in a high density metropolitan city, IE san francisco. Selling a lot of equipment and gear. Profit margins are 50 to 60% on Shoei helmets. Yes that qwest really costs the dealer $170. Good returns on all products and motorcycles need em. Then of course having a good mechanic shop and services. 400+ for a valve check on a ninjette = easy money for the business. You know it doesn't cost them more than $50 in parts for that and the mechanic is lucky to score $20 bucks an hour.

Sorry about the tangent. I'm not affiliated with any dealerships or defending them. It's just interesting to really know what is going on and helps people understand why things cost as much as they do. Helps with a reality check for negotiating prices. There's a reason they don't budge on ninjette prices.

Wow... I didn't think a 650 was capable of doing something like that.

650R as a stunter. Imagine that!

Pics work better if you've got "Yakety Sax" playing in your head.

Yeah! That sounds like a great idea. Does anyone want a scratch and dented WR250 or whatever those other bikes are?
