Top Speed

Sorry if this is the wrong section, or if this has already been discussed extensively. I did a search and while I could find several references to 'top speed' I didn't find a thread that was discussing it in general.

I was wondering what 'top speed' people generally get from their Ninjettes on flat (track) conditions.

My top speed is 95mph. This was flat track surface with a slight headwind (perhaps 8mph)

I have a 2002 model and the only modification was to change the front sprocket from 14 to 15. Other than that, it's exactly as it rolled off the production line. I weigh 190lbs. I'm not sure how much with all of my gear on, but I'm guessing at least another 20lbs.

As an aside, funny how 95mph on a track feels like 60mph on the road.

Don't forget to account for speedo error

Good point Jiggles.

This was the 'indicated' speed ... on the speedo. Also, the 2002 has an analog speedo, so this reading was based on my looking down at the dial and reading off what I thought it said.

Roger, you weigh 190lbs. These bikes are made for girls that weigh in at 100lbs or less. So you need to lose at least 90 lbs and start cross dressing (again).

LOL

You're partially correct. I do need to lose 'lbs'. But, a few months ago I weighed in at 228, so I'm making progress there. My objective is to be 175 by the end of the year. I'm not sure that I'll make it, but that's my target. the weight loss should be good for another couple of mph.

On the cross-dressing part ... hmm! I live in a house with three women (wife and two daughters), so there's ample opportunity for me to borrow their clothes. Will that make my Ninjette go faster or enable me to ride better? If so, I might consider it.

Incidentally (everyone) I want to stress that I'm not fixated on the straight-line speed of my bike. 95mph is PLENTY fast enough for me. I prefer riding at much lower speeds along twisty roads. I was just interested in how our different bikes perform and straight line speeds is something that we can all compare.

yes - ladies clothes will make you go at least 10 mph faster, but your your top end gained through such methods will only get stronger with more pictures taken of the event.

Hurm, interesting. When I first attempted to find my top speed I found a (*place and time undisclosed*) and just let her rip. hit the red line just as I was going a bit over 90 per the speedometer and I could not get it past that point before I ran out of straight and flat road.

Oh um, stock '12 while wearing leathers on top of the 160lb bag of rocks already sitting in the saddle.

Top Speed

I took my 2008 Ninja 250 downhill at about 102 mph and I weigh 145 lbs. I'm not sure if the speedometer is accurate.

@Joshy715 welcome to ninjette!

You're about an hour south of me. I'm in the Cleveland-Akron area.

You should come hang out with a few of us next time that we head to Mid-Ohio next summer. Better yet, just come ride with us I know so far that csmith12, myself, codestp202 are tentatively planning one (or a few) next summer. Nautica is interested as well. csmith12 practically lives at the track

Anyhow, welcome to ninjette, I'll be sure to tag you in the planning thread this winter once we get it going.

revlimiter in 6th gear with stock gearing is 105mph IIRC. getting to redline is not hitting the rev limiter.

@choneofakind That's awesome!! I don't ride the Ninja much because I have my own bike but my brothers ride it all the time. I actually ran across this website looking for some parts and it is really cool!! I live 2 miles down the road from Mid Ohio.

The highest I've seen after downloading the data from my GPS laptimer is 104mph at the end of the straight. That is with a pipe, jetting, and gearing.

Lots of internal engine work, lots of dyno time, and a nicely mapped nitrous system. He is the world record holder for a ninja 250 top speed. Check out his blog. Pretty neat.

Did you just get the exhaust or the full system with the Jetting and what is gearing comprised of?

These are just test runs. Next year will be faster. The engine is a 265 cc so it is in the 350 class. Next year I will be running a 250 from hell.

Weigh does not directly effect top speed, it effects acceleration. Your "size" may create more air drag, but your weight is not a factor.

Incidentally, when I was at 95, I wasn't on the rev-limiter. In fact I'm sure that there was lots of rev's left. That was just as fast as the bike would go. I guess that based on the comments here, if I'd have another ten or twenty miles of track ahead of me, I might have gone faster. But, it didn't feel as if the bike would go faster - no matter how much track was available.

@Kokosun That's how mine felt too. 6th gear, redlining, just above 90, and no more oomph. I kept checking my hand to see if I had more throttle to give but nope.

Defiantly
Because next year there will be contingent of 250s.

My bike will be there developing the nitrous . There will be a couple vintage 250s 1954 BMW r25s that set records at Bonniville this year. There will be a four cylinder Yamaha 250 screaming down the track at 19000 rpm and hopefully a Honda single with nitrous fuel injection and nitrous .
Next year will be a 250 cc assault on the record book.

The first race is April 27-28 in Wilmington Ohio.

Done an indicate 170 kph, about 106 mph, with a bit of tailwind.
I weigh like 130 lbs, plus leathers, so that might be a factor as well

I indicated 100 for the first time on a flat road yesterday. Stock 11, I weigh 165, and I recently had a tune job about two months ago. Took what seemed like forever to go from 97-100 haha.

Before I would only indicate 95 top, and about 103 down hill.
