Teaching cats to use toilet.

Yep, I have 4 cats in my defense 3 were found in the the dumpster at 2 weeks old so i bottle fed them for 5 weeks. Here we are a year later and I am the crazy cat lady anyway. I have decided to teach them all how to use the human toilet lets hope it goes according to my plan cause I am sick of cat litter and boxes

I brought this up with my gf who lives with her sister and have 2 cats. The sister says it's too stressful for the cats, blah blah blah. I guess there's merit to that which is evident after some googling. But she lost my attention when she said she's vegan.

Teaching them to go in the toilet is the easy part. Teaching them to flush is hard.

Yeah i read about the stressful stuff too but I figured they already hop up and drink out of the damn thing, why not teach them to use it

Teaching them to flush is great...Until that one time when you're in the shower

We taught our cat. He was almost perfect with #1. #2 was more of a problem, but when he made a mistake it was usually right in front of the toilet on a tile floor, so in the scheme of mistakes they are pretty easy to deal with.

But he had problems adjusting to a busy house with the kids starting to run around more, and started to make mistakes on purpose for attention (after 8+ years of being good). He's now an outdoor cat.

^^^ This man nailed it. My cat turns on the faucet and has a drink when he's thirsty. He opens the fridge and steals some scraps for a snack. He pries open the door when he wants to go out.

But somehow for the life of me I cannot manage to impress the values of conservation to the little guy. Don't get me wrong, I've sat him down and had some very serious talks about water bills, electric bills, and massively oversized mosquitoes entering the house.

He just doesn't seem to understand the concept of turning OFF the faucet, closing the fridge, or closing the door behind him after he goes out.

I guess cats have a lot on their minds'.

(OP if you have more cats than children, I have some bad news.)

Had 22 but some have found homes with other families. FINALLY!!! I "think" there are about 14 or 15 left out there.

I wish I had the time to work with them more but they are outside cats. 2 of them have made the garage "their" place and love to sit on my bikes. Darn paw prints all over ereryting.
