Preventing Theft
I live in an apartment so I don't have a garage to hide my 250. The only thing I can secure my bike to is a small tree in the parking lot or perhaps my car. It's pretty secluded and I always make sure I park it behind some cars so it's not visible.
There's been cases before in my town where some professionals would run in and pick up a bunch of bikes and disappear. I want to prevent the four guys with the pickup truck driving away with her. |

You may hide the bike, but people see you coming in and out; so, they would know it is there, if they really want it.
There are several lines of defense that you can create: Mark parts with VIN number Cover with alarm (silent to a beeper or phone is better) Chain to a solid-heavy body or grounded point Extra locks in wheels Disabled ignition GPS locator

I installed the Scorpio i900 2 way alarm. I know if someone is just walking by my bike.

I'd reccomend just getting a big thick chain and chaining it to something that isnt going anywhere, or maybe your car like was mentioned because where i live someone was going around in a transit van with a rail system they made and they would just hoist the bike up on this rail system that slid out the back of the van, life the bike up and push it into the back of the van and drive, then take apart the bike find any GPS locators and get rid of it so stuff like that i dont see worth while as chances are they will be found, i think another good thing may be the text alert when someone messes with the bike or something like that

I'm looking for something too. I'd like an alarm with a pager, the problem is that most have a very short range. I'd also like to stay below $200.

Why don't you just put a sticker on it that reads "this bike is protected by snipers" and set a camera up of him hiding and looking for snipers, even if the bike gets nicked you've still got funny video!
.....think I might actually try this! |

Disc alarm, chain and cover are probably the cheapest and most effective deterrents.
But if someone wants your bike, they WILL take it. Even if it is behind a garage door. Insurance is the best protection.

An almax 19mm chain, a Y anchor, and a benelli m4 semi auto 12 gauge should provide a god enough deterrent.
If some scum want your model of bike they'll go for the easiest target, make yours more difficult than the next guys and out should be ok Other options are datatag microdots (every part is tagged so if it ends up in a chop shop the parts are traceable) a small padlock in the chain (not many people think to check for that) or anti poacher trip mines (they fire a blank 12 gauge shell if the wire is tripped, it's enough to get cops there asap Or combined with the sniper sticker up thread it may leave the thief needing a new set of pants ) Posted via Mobile Device |
